Occasional poster returns from the dead

Well not dead  :D

A bad cycling accident and it had been over a year since I played a guitar (Broken shoulder, wrist, Much fatter now etc..) or been on this forum. I restrung my Rebel Yell loaded LP last night -Ernie Ball Skinny Top Heavy Bottoms - and played along to Back in Black (The song) a few times.

It was shite, but it was playing, wrist doesn't move as much as I'd like, still having physio. Last but not least I've blistered the end of my ring finger doing the bloody bends.

I dont' expect anyone to remember a minor forum participant, I just wanted to come back and get playing again ans say Hi.

Nice to see all the same names are posting.

Glad to hear you're playing again.
(If you don't mind me asking) What happened? What type of cycling are/were you into?
Just asking because I do a lot of mountain biking and this is always a bit of a worry.
Broke a finger on my fretboard hand several years ago and couldn't play for about 6 months.
Wrist would be a killer.

This time was a road accident, clipped at a roundabout and knocked flying. My On-One Ill Pompino is toast.
The usual didn't see you bollocks from the driver. Cops not interested as I'm alive etc etc..

I do Mountain bike too, aside from a 2 inch gash under my chin and a dislocated shoulder that's been an uneventful 10 years so far.


Not playing was shite, I never was a great player but love it regardless. I just need to work at it slowly, maybe going back to the start and taking the technique from square one will be a blessing in disguise you never know.

Welcome back :D

When I joined the forum I was halfway through recovering from a broken arm and dislocated shoulder - and I'd just got back into playing guitar when it happened. So I have some idea what you've been through (can't imagine the broken wrist though)...

I've ended up being a far better player, partly through sheer blody-mindedness, and partly because I had to adapt my lazy style slightly at first, and I ended up with techniques I hadn't dreamt of...

Welcome back.  I broke my left wrist when I was 21 in a motorbike accident and was so worried about playing that I had all the fingers moving by the time the physio came to start exercises!  I was in hospital a week with my arm suspended pointing upwards to drain any fluids.  The first thing I did when I got home was to break out most if the pot across the palm of my hand so that it would let me get a guitar neck in there!  I had a screw in the wrist which had to come out once it healed, but after that it was OK.  I hope yours is the same and you get full motion back and enjoy playing again.

I'm glad you pulled through O.K.  Phillip ; and of course that it was a year out  instead of a fatality. I once put my guitars down for about two years, albeit for different reasons - and the period that followed proved to be much more productive and enjoyable than the time before the un-planned sabbtical.

God damn my fingers hurt. Maybe I should have put wimpier strings on for the first set 'til I get my callouses back.
