Best set for heavy rock - torn between NB/RY
« on: January 29, 2010, 12:16:55 AM »
Hi guys,

What I usually play mostly resembles Black Stone Cherry, Velvet Revolver (let's call them vintage, with a modern twist), Nickelback, Alter Bridge and Godsmack (these are modern, right?). I'd also like to be able to play something like The Darkness, The Answer, Hot Leg (vintage all the way). Basically I'm aiming for both sides of the Atlantic :)

Tight bass response, but good dynamics. Highs should be firm, but not earpiercing. All while retaining the honkiness of my Tokai LP copy...

NBs seemed to fit the bill but during the past couple of days I've listened most if not all the NB clips here. Most of them were metal stuff, so they've biased me a little. Would they sound too fizzy for me?

Thanks in advance for your insight, and sorry for not mastering the tech lingo.

I would look at Crawler or Cold Sweat for what you need
the crawler is warmer and the Cold Sweat is crunchier

For Darkness - I would definitely go Cold Sweat

Thanks for the suggestion! But actually, that Brit tone would come second, as I'm more into Yankee hard rock... I do play downtuned every now and then...

..everywhere I play, people ask me about my pups(I know people are tired of hearing this from me, but it is 100 % of the time..they KNOW they aren't stock...)a LP Standard..the answer: Rebel Yells! they smoke in everything from the blues to  hard rock..they also do the job in my occasional TOOL cover band(we just need a vocalist)-a great modern AV pup that loves my Boogies!
