NoADAD (obligatory fuzzy pics included)
« on: February 01, 2010, 09:27:05 AM »
New (old) ADA Day.
'Twas my birthday yesterday and rather than socks or a tie, my good lady bought me this:

I've wanted an ADA MP-1 for donkeys years, and although this is the later 'Classic' version I'm over the moon!

It's got some old Matsushta (National/Panasonic) valves in it which I believe were made under the guidance of Mullard. They sound pretty good to me and I'm seriously considering some NOS Mullards if these valves are anything to go by.

So far I'm running it through cabinet impulses and it works very well. I'm planning on setting it up with my Pod XT Live in the effects loop(s) and use the Pod's MIDI for channel switching too.

Gratuitous out of focus gut-shot just for Hunter ;)

Look there on the horizon
And I'm coming home

Wish my missus would buy me stuff like that  :(

That gut shot looks pretty scary man, I wouldn't be putting my fingers in there ever!

LOL

Looks quite a lot different to an original MP-1. Here are the guts of mine.

There are 10 kinds of people who understand binary.
Those who do and those who do not.

Nice.  You have to wonder why/how ADA managed to go bust given the popularity & (now) cult status of the MP1...
BKPs: HD, MM, NB, PK, CS, Ab (b&n); Am (b only); VHII, Tril (n only); IT, Slow, Sult (m&n)

We'll ask that question about Gibson in 5 years ... :?

The difference there is that it will be a rhetorical question - we already know where Gibson have gone/are going wrong:

Too many guitars nobody wants
Silly prices
Poor quality control

It's all about the MP1 :) The MIDI capabilities are great for rigging up with a computer/line6/other fx units :)

Nice score with the ADA
I can't believe I am down to my last 1 ADA now (although I have more than made up for it with Egneter and Randall - though I have sold on the Lynchbox as it wasn't practical for me at home.

I found the classic an interesting development of the original - and I think I preferred the sound of the original , although some of the extra features the classic has such as speaker emulated outputs and stereo loop are a real bonus

It is sad that they went bust but it was during the grunge and Nu Metal era when NOBODY wanted rack gear - no matter how good it sounded.

There is possibly enough interest for ADA to be resurrected and bring out another product - think they would have to skip calling it the MP3 (they have already had MP1 & MP2) as it would be confusing.
I suspect that they could choose to have knobs to adjust the main preamp parameters not unlike the Rocktron Piranha as it is a more musician friendly method.

That's a nice bit of kit and no mistake. I might look at getting one myself in case my elderly ACT stops working.
