Christmas is approaching, and i need an amp.
Now, please, for the good of myself, just be cool and clear on this one.
Unlike someone on this forum, whos belief that 15 valve watts is louder than 15 other watts *COUGH COUGH _tom_ COUGH*.

My general requirements are:
Cheap, under £200.
Loud enough for gigging, at least over 15 watts.
Awesome, awesome tone.
Preferably found on Soundsmusical.com, where ive got  a sympathy discount because they listed my dream and discontinued guitar.
I know the above may seem a bit stupid, but it needs to be cheap. After my birthday my parents are recovering from the latest spend, so i dont know what they will think of an expensive amp.
You guys must get this question all the time, but i assure you, this is so important you wouldnt believe it.
Ill pay you all when im rich and famous for my music.

awesome, awesome tone, loud enough for gigging, but under £200? :o

The VOX valvetronix's have their fans, or you could try ebay (my 100W JCM800 was £350...not bad considering my old Line 6 Spider was £319)

15 valve watts are louder....when valves distort they produce more volume, when transitors distort they produce nasty cr@p sounding square wave distortion and blow speakers.

tom is right that a 15 watt valve amp will sound louder than a 15 watt solid state amp. if you want to bring your mg30 round to my house i will gladly blow it away with my laney lc30...

the reason for this i can't remember, i think it's that valve amps produce more even-numbered harmonics which are easier picked up by the human ear than odd-numbered harmonics.

what kind of music do you want to play on it? a diezel vh4 has awesome tone, but not if you play blues...

i did have the reason why that valve amps put out more power, but it was far too like a physics lesson for my liking. if anybody can explain it without my eyes glazing over i'd be interested! all i know that it is input power rather than output power that amps are measured in.

the guy who repaired my amp makes an amp which puts out 6 watts in class A mode, and can be dropped to 2.5 watts.

The LC15's a good little amp, but so are the TubeFusion's as well. They're Laney's hybrid amp range, and look like tough preformers.

Just a suggestion mind.

I have one of the Laney TubeFusions, and will verify that it's a good little amp and a tough performer! :)

I have a Vox Valvtronix AC30VT and thats loud enough in a big hall - Ive never turned it all the way up when its on overdrive!!  on clean however it lacks a bit of volume.. but thats clean and who cares  :twisted:

It cost me £149 new when they 1st came out and I reckon its got pretty good tone for the money!!  Why not try and get a AC50VT?  I have a friend who got a 2nd hand one for £90!!!

if i were in your position, i would save a bit longer. i got a nice laneylc30 for £250 used. IMO, if you buy a wee amp, you'll just sell it for a better one anyway in a few months, losing a lot of money on having bought it in the first place.
