If you like your instrumental guitar albums to slip and slide like a serpent and your tone extra crunchy, then the new Jay Parmar CD, Strange Day will be right up your alley.

Jay, also known as withoutwarning on this and other forums, is a kick ass melodic rock guitarist, with a very firm grasp on songcraft. He's also a scary lead guitarist! Jay and I traded solos on a Dokken cover song last year and I had my work cut out for me keeping up with him!!!

The CD kicks off with a very mellow, almost ambient piece of music, and then kicks into 9 additional tracks of the riffing variety. It is very Lynch like, and since Jay makes no bones (pun intended) about his influence, it's almost impossible to miss!!

I checked out the clips some time ago. Jay's a great player. The sound of that Soldano GTO is awesome.

Haven't been around much lately so only just saw the review...thanks for a very cool review. I really appreciate it. You're welcome about the credit bro :) Hope the CD was all you expected and more...

Ratrod - thanks for the kind comments man. Much appreciated...The Soldano is the core of mu tone. Even though I keep trying various other amps and heads, I always go back to that pedal! I changed out the tubes to JJ ECC83S tubes recently and they had more gain and a tighter response, but after a couple of weeks of using them I put the Sovtek 12AX7LPS tubes back in...the pedal lives for those tubes and my tone is back!

I've never played a Soldano - are they as good as they're cracked up to be? has anyone tried the supercharger GTO pedal?

Better bro...I've tried out a lot of amps but keep going back to the Soldano. The tone is beautiful and they have tonnes of drive. I'm using my Supercharger for all my recording right now (inc the tracks on Strange Day) and have an SP77 preamp which I plug into a Marshall 9005 poweramp. The combination of the Soldano and Marshall throws out a ridiculous amount of gain when the Marshall is cranks (the SP77 gain level stays at about 5 and that's plent for massive amounts of sustain). Soldano amps are pretty bright sounding, but that adds to their unique tone...worth checking out if you can get your hands on one...
