Hypothetical pickup choise question.
« on: February 15, 2010, 10:17:26 AM »
You find yourself in a practice room. In that room you find an old Marshall JTM45 half stack, a mahogany, maple capped guitar with room for two humbuckers. There are no pickups in the guitar but on a desk there's the full range of BKP humbucker sized pickups and a soldering iron.

What set of pickup would you install and what would you play?

And before you ask, yes, I'm a computer programmer !-)

Well the old Marshall limits the styles a bit so I guess I would put in some Mules and do some bluesrock...

Probably Mules is what I'd put in there... (I'd pocket a set of Abraxas, though, and say Philly took them...)

Then I'd get my strat out, or my blackguarded tele, and find out what that amp could do for me

Might as well take a set myself then, if I'm in trouble anyway!

I'll try the Abraxas, then will play slow for hours wide opening my mouth.
Later, will put the Cold Sweat and play some rock!

Maybe, I will try the PK for serious metal!
Agonise over your decision for weeks like the rest of us.

I was also tempted by the idea of opening all the boxes and, er, swapping the lids round before the next guy came in...

On a more serious note, I'd actually want two identical guitars there, and I'd put Mules in one and Abraxas in the other to see what the difference was...

(not that I'm getting interested in Abraxas or anything )

Why narrow it down so much when you could have a guitar with 4 pickups in.

Mules/SM,RR,YB, boss/ IT, VHII,   VHII & Mothers Milk, Abraxus, SM/aphache, sultans

After faffing for an hour and nearly installing the Stormy Mondays, I know myself well enough that an AV Warpig would go in the bridge, leaving the neck empty to save time (I'm shitee at soldering).

Low down and dirty Sabbath esque 70's metal would then commence (first riff would be Supernaut).

After an hour or so I would swap it for a Pig-90 bridge for kicks.

I'd grab my painkillers and walk to the next to room where there's an ENGL Invader 150 and proceed to unleash HELL!
c-bomb bridge, cs neck, HD set, MM set, PK set, Alnico BH set
