2 parts to this question concerning pickups to buy, mostly for rhythm playing and probably a pair.
1. Can anyone reccomend a pickup that may work particularly well with the tonal qualities (or lack of) of an acrylic guitar?I have an Acrylic BC RICH mockingbird that I want to set up as my 'metal' guitar. I'm using Dimebag Darrell DR strings 50-9. I'm thinking either the Warpig or Nailbomb since the audio examples for those match the sound I want, but which would match an acrylic guitar best?
2. Live I use a POD XT LIVE. Does this mean that active pickups will be better for me to cancel hum?
Regarding the sound I'm aiming for...
I want a nice warm, punchy metal sound with lots of harmonics and low end. My band plays hard rock originals in standard E and often Drop D tunings (but no lower). Think Soundgarden, RATM, Metallica, and tight enough for something like Slipknot or Pantera, as very general reference points for sound and style. I plan to balance that sound on recordings with a vintage strat single coil sound.
My guess for pickups is the Bare Knuckles Warpig or Nailbomb pickups. Both sound great on the audio examples I've found on this forum. But which is better for an acrylic guitar and my sound!?!
I'm also considering the Seymour Duncan Blackouts AHB1 or AHB2 (sound a bit lifeless and lacking harmonics on the audio examples tho), the Livewire Metal (sounds great on the audio sample, but tough enough on high gain?).
Any help much appreciated. Many thanks!!
