New PRS Day
« on: February 20, 2010, 06:14:37 PM »
I just picked up a 2002 10 top PRS Single Cut (much to my wife's annoyance since I took back the one she bought me new in 2002!).  I still don't like the PRS pickups and so this will soon be BK'd, however other than that I am really liking the guitar.  I'm going to change out the strings for a set of Snake Oil Brand's and set it up generally and then see how it works (currently the G dies off when you bend upwards so there is some setup needed).

So many pickups, so little time

I like it, but not 100% sure about the colour (is the top pic the most accurate representation?)

Is this one better than the one your wife bought you, or have your tastes just changed in the meantime?
BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds
BKPs I Had:  RY+Abraxas, Crawlers, BD+SM

Hi Philly, it's Gretsch Orange (if you've seen 6120's you'll know the colour.  It is hard to get photograped, but the top pic is the closest to the real colour.  The one my wife bought was a green quilt top with the standard PRS fixed wrap around. What I really didn't like about it (and a lot of other PRS's), was that the back was sprayed black so you couldn't see the wood.  I took it back with her, but there was nothing in the shop that I liked (Sam Ash in NYC), so they eventually gave her the money back.  I then got my 1994 Artist II instead, which saved her about $1,000 and was a guitar that I really like (I was playing it last weekend, though putting Mules on it really transformed it).  I'm thinking of getting a set of Crawlers for this, but will talk to Tim about it next week.  This was also a bit of a bargin with a buy it now at less than most starting prices.

Yes, I know what you mean by Gretsch Orange!  In that case I withdraw my reservations about the colour, I like orange guitars.  :)

(I have a Sunset Orange Tele body which may eventually see the light of day in an NGD thread)

It's strange, for some reason red/orange/cherry guitars seem to be hard to photograph.  Either the colour looks wrong, or the wood grain "disappears"... I don't know if it's only with a digital camera.  Maybe there's some technical reason for it?

I'm thinking of getting a set of Crawlers for this

If it's a "tight & bright" guitar, then Crawlers would be a perfect match.

This one looks sweet, though. :)

Looks very nice indeed Phil. Not sure that it blends against the flooring however. What were you thinking?

Nice one mate, didn't (for some reason) think you were typically enamoured with the PRS's...still lovely guitar mate
