Need help choosing the right pickups for my custom
« on: February 25, 2010, 03:44:55 PM »
Hi

I'm looking for a defined, harmonically rich, high gain pickup for the bridge position, and something warm yet clear for a single coil in the neck position - for cleans I mainly use the neck pup, which I need it to be ultra clear, bell-like, and definitely not thin and brittle sounding!

Specs of my custom:

Wenge neck through with 2 Maple laminates
Ziricote fingerboard
Walnut wings
Oil finish
Hannes bridge
27 frets

I play progressive death metal, yet record a lot of clean music outside of the band so versatility is a must for the neck pup - equipment I use: Engl Fireball, Laney cab (soon to be Mills).

Really appreciate all the help!  :)
Thanks
-Paul

The Painkiller would be ideal for your bridge position, very harmonically rich and due to a ceramic magnet with 2 flanker magnets each side of the pickup makes it very high gain. The ceramic magnet will also give you a very defined tone.

For your neck position the Mother Milk would be a great choice, warn with very clear tone and 60s brightness with Alnico V magnets.
