Fender Custom Shop Esquire

Just having a browse through the custom shop website and noticed one that has a pine body. I've not hearb of many (maybe any) being made of pine. Any experience of them on here? Not sure what pine would be like sound and weight wise.

The very, very early Fender esquires were all laminated pine bodies I believe.

Yep, the original prototypes were pine.

The Squier Classic Vibe teles are also made of pine, and mine sounded great!

I'm pretty sure that my Mexican '90s Tele has a pine body.  It sounds pretty good though it's mighty heavy and I think that weight comes through in the tone.

Yep. I turned mine into an esquire and put a BG50 in it.

I wish I could do a head to head comparison with a real one.

The original 'Snake Heads' were indeed pine, but some of the 60 very early production guitars without the truss rods were also pine.

I believe the bodies were thinner as well at one and a half inches. Funnily enough it's the same thickness the wood they were using for the cabinets for the amps. If you know a bit about the history of Fender it makes sense they would use something they had lying around.
