Good luck on your big change of direction dude. Wish I had the guts to make a change like that!

Good luck Hunter - refreshing to see someone make a decision/change as big as that. I'm not sure I could do it myself!
I think I hate being indecisive.

That is great Hunter- I admire your strength of purpose and I wish you all the best. Presumably you will return to Europe to teach. I used to accompany Mrs 38th to her yoga classes and it was all a bit girly and so I fitted in well.

Hey Hunter, we're on the same path!  I quit the corporate life back in October and I'm now setting up a hypnotherapy practice. I had the same thing - did very well in the corporate realm for 10 years, doubled my salary, got a great reputation etc., then a couple of years ago found out that it just wasn't me.  The financial and social safety and security of a career are actually a great risk to a creative type - much better to get out there, do creative stuff, take risks and be free.   Feeling trapped in a gilded cage is much worse for you than being free and relatively skint.

Your thing with the yoga sounds brilliant - it's going to fascinating and very good for your body and soul.  The practical advantage is that yoga is now a very accepted art and more and more people are doing it for their health.  Doctors, physios and osteopaths recommend it to their patients.  So, there's a living in it.  And training in Vegas baby!  Major cool points there.

Good luck man, I'm sure you'll do great.  Do remember to get rid of any corporate competitive tendencies before you start though.  Apparently punching the air and shouting "Yay!  I am the serenest!" at the end of a yoga session is considered bad form....

I used to accompany Mrs 38th to her yoga classes and it was all a bit girly and so I fitted in well.

Bikram is not girlie (except that there are usually around 70% females) - it's very tough and physical, a real workout for strength, flexibility and cardio - plus you feel GREAT afterwards, really, it's an addiction!

That's the problem with too many forms of exercise.... you have to be fit before you start or it'll kill you.   :?

Ha ha, I know what you mean. I wasn't in great shape when we went as I had had surgery and was a bit out of condition and even the "girly" type wore me out but it paid off after a couple of months. The guy giving the lessons was American and decided to go back to the US and so it all came to an end. I am aware that your type isn't in any way girly though.

not true. When I started I was not fit. Everybody can start anytime, it's never too late to change for the better. You might have to take breaks as a beginner, but as you get used to the heat and stamina improves you will become better and better.

I was being a bit flippant, as usual, and I'm sure you're right, but I was semi-serious.  I somehow totally $%&#ed up my lower back about 10 years ago, and as a result all my "core" muscles have turned to mush over the years.  I'm not saying I'm crippled or anything dramatic, far from it, but any exercise which involves the abs or lower back hurts - quite a lot - and I'm never sure if I'm making things better or worse.  I wouldn't have a hope in hell of keeping up with any kind of "class" based exercise.

(I'd be highly reluctant to deliberately subject myself to extreme temperatures, too!    )

I tried Hatha yoga for a bit, quite enjoyed it, made me feel better... but it took about 1h30 which dragged out far too long. I think it could be condensed and still get the same feeling

Hey hunter I'd never put you down as a yoga type, just wiki searched this bikram style as I'm curious, although the only reason I'd start doing yoga is I hear it's a good place to meet women :D

Speaking of vegas, I just finished watching something on bbc iplayer about the place, to me it sounds like a businessman's dream for cashing in on the self destructive side of people. Just the gambling addiction side looks like an emotion journey of a vicious negative loop in the quest for euphoria from a big win. Seeing the addicts speak and rationalise completely random events is scary, while at the same time being in denial of being an addict.

Good luck to ya man.

God I'd love to jack in IT, I'm bored senseless with it and working for a big evil corp in the process doesn't exactly make it any better. My problem is that work fuels the hobbies, and the hobbies are fantasically expensive. Though saying that, if I can trickle pedals out every now and then that pays for pedal bits (the last two are already spent, 16 stomp switches = £60, add a few more bits and pieces and it's all gone). I just need to get my big evil corp to sponsor me to dick around with race cars... Not a chance sadly. Which leaves me stuck. I'm really not very good at anything else to make the sort of money I do in IT. It's a bummer and I hate the thought that evil corp effectively has me by the goolies.
When you´re racing, it's life. Anything that happens before or after is just pies.
