Killed My Orange. Again.
« on: March 13, 2010, 05:04:17 PM »
Big dogs c--k.

Took delivery of my much anticipated Weber Mass 150 attenuator yesterday, and had a crack at my Orange with it today.

Cue nasty burning valve smell and a blown 3 amp mains fuse.

Starting to get tired of my Orange again.  It's so impractical.  Just been playing through my RAT modded Blackheart Little Giant, and it's great - sounds great, doesn't complain, and at 5 watts is easily loud enough to play in my band...

Maybe I need to stop pissing about buying cheap guitars that I don't need and buy a decent, practical and RELIABLE amp...

 :(

Mark.

Just a question. Are you using SPEAKER cables or just regular guitar cables?

Well that's not good. Were you running the amp flat out?

Yes.  You do.

( Harsh I know, but it's the truth!  :) )

No, not flat out - about 12 oclock.  I did wind up up for a second or two but it sounded arse.  At 12 oclock it sounded awesom.

Going to B&Q later to get the right 3 amp fuse (it takes really small ones, for some reason), hopefully it will come back to life.  Maybe it just doesn't like attenuators?  I've heard stories about these things killing old amps...

You're right, Dave - the Orange has been the bane of my life for nearly 20 years - sounds incredible, but is just soooo impractical...

I suspect there will be a "Mark needs a new amp" thread starting shortly...

it was the HT fuse then, not the fuse in the mains plug?

remember to ask for a slow blow fuse or it'll probably go pop again as soon as you switch on

Sorry I can't help with the Orange. I just want to Agree on the RAT Modded Blackheart. I took mine to a Jam yesterday and it kept up with a Drummer and second guitarist fine. On full tilt it sounds super, a big fat DC like tone then hit it with a boost and it sings even more....  :D
