Knaggs guitars - not impressed!
« on: March 16, 2010, 12:21:15 PM »
Joe Knaggs is the ex-PRS Private Stock head and has set up on his own.  He's recently updated his website with some new models:

http://knaggsguitars.com/

Is it just me, or could this quite easily be a £250 Cort?   :?

I don't like the look of that at all. The other models don't look too great either!

EDIT - I don't like the website either. It's too busy for my eyes and I'm already confused about the product lines.

I don't mind this one:

I can think of better for the price though.
Would be interested to read more on the trem he is using.

the looks don't do it for me, I'd have to play one before I could give an opinion on what it's like as a guitar though.

Yeah, I'm not loving the Knaggs designs much.  I think part of the problem is in the details - I get the feeling he's deliberately avoiding PRS-style hardware, for example, but he'd probably prefer to be using it.

That one you've posted above looks like something Minarik might come up with if they finally exhausted the world supply of flame maple and abalone!

On the other hand, Knaggs' designs like the Mira and Starla are my favourite PRS models (although I didn't like the look of the Starla to begin with!).  He seems to be at his best when he keeps things simple.
BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds
BKPs I Had:  RY+Abraxas, Crawlers, BD+SM

They'll just find the next best thing or make cheap fake stuff. They'll still look nice ;)

The only thing that could make it worse would be those horrible bird inlays!

I quite like this one; reminds me of the copies/projenitors of the Fender Stratocaster design.
I too use chicken as a measurement.

Really don't like the bridge on the model Twinfan posted, nor the shape. It reminds me of a Vanquish guitar www.vanquishsounds.com that's put on some weight!

I'm also not a big fan of any of his headstock designs, they're all a bit clunky looking. I don't mind the bodyshape on the Chesapeake Choptank though.
Warpigs.

that one dave posted would be quite nice if it had less symmetrical horns. I wasn't too fussed with the ones posted in guitarist magazine, though.

Now this is a guitar.

I love it! It's gonna start knagging me to get one, I swear.

I like it to be honest apart from that headstock... reminds me of one of the Washburn shapes that I dislike!

I think they've made an error in using the term "Chesapeake" so much. At first glance I read it as "cheapskate". Maybe it's just me, though
BKPs (soon): CS, TS.
Ex-BKPs: Abrax, NB, SM, PK, Mule, WP.
