Anyone have any experience of the Love Rock

The higher end Tokais that is, the ones costing 1699-2000?  What they like?

Supposedly on a par with Gibson Custom Shop, but to me they don't look as good as the Gibson equivalent.  The flame tops are too 'perfect' and the burst patterns a bit odd.

For that money, I'd buy a used '58 resissue.......

I played one that was about a grand at the time but would be a little more now and it was very nice, but that's all it was.  Although I have a Tokai 335 which was nicer than most of the Gibsons I've tried with a Les Paul at that price I'd go for the Gibson, even just for resale value.

this looks nice though...

My old boss has one.
He loves it and won't let me near it.
He just sticks to 3 main guitars; Prs singlecut with Trem, 80s strat and the loverock.
It sounds very good through his Soldano and he knows his stuff, so I presume they are decent

i tried one about £1000, it was reliced. Not entirely sure what model it was (it's not on the site, maybe a special run for the UK?), but it was awesome- smoked the non-CS gibsons I've tried, but I didn't compare it to a CS. That was a couple of years ago, though, before the pound collapsed, so it might be in your price range now.

Can't comment on the super high end LR but my mid range one is a great guitar.

Like the guys said a Gibson will have a better resale value but the LR might not cost as much as a Gibbo in the first place.

I should add that I have a irrational no gibson rule.  I also never sell my gear, so resale value isn't in issue. but as I now have the surf green strat, I have a craving for a LP type guitar and the plush Tokai's look high enough end.  I agree with Twinfan about the too perfect tops, though.  But how do they play????

Don't know about the Love Rocks, but I have a high-end Tokai SG and it's as good or better than any of the Gibson SGs I've owned (which didn't include any Custom Shop models, I have to say).
BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds
BKPs I Had:  RY+Abraxas, Crawlers, BD+SM

If you're looking for a high end non-Gibson LP-a-like then you could probably add ESP's Navigator brand to your list, although they are pricey so a used one might be the best option.
