help identifying my Tokai
« on: March 18, 2010, 06:58:19 AM »
Hi guys, hope you can help. I've got a lovely Cherry sunburst Tokai Loverock for 3 years now & as I got it a deal from a supplier (looooooooong story) I never checked the model number. I've had a look inside the pickup cavities & the only numbers in there are as follows: E2-25 C/S & the same is in the neck pickup cavity with a number 9 & 8/13 as well. I love the guitar to death, but it's now annoying me what model it is

Any help is greatfully apprecitated. I know this is an 03 model as the stamped serial number on the headstock.

She's a beauty :D

No help on the model number though. I've got a black "standard", an LS-something, I think... I used to worry about it, but gave up.

All I know is that, even though I don't play it that often, it's an absolute joy to play and it's on the list of "can't let that go if I ever have to down-size" (as is nearly every guitar I own!)

You need to work out:

If it's a veneer top or solid flame
Nitro or poly finish
etc

Have a read around on www.tokaiforum.com and you should be able to work it out.

I reckon it's an LS-85F (poly finish, medium tenon, veneer flame).

it's definitely a long tenon as I can see the join in the neck pickup cavity. I posted the request also on the tokai forum Dave, but as yet haven't had any help so far. How can I tell if it's a veneer or not please?

If you pull a pickup out, you should be able to see if the grain on the maple lines up with the top.  If it doesn't, it's likely to be a veneer.

Another obvious sign is a centre join in the flame top, and no join in the pickup cavity (indicating a 3 or more piece top).

I don't know much about Tokai guitars, so can't really help with what model it is, but that guitar looks lovely!
