NTD Pic's added (Look Away Roo)
« on: March 19, 2010, 09:54:19 AM »
I'm in need of a Tele, no reason I just need one  :D

I don't want to spend mega bucks in fact the cheaper the better as long as it's playable and upgradable in the future.

I'm not a traditionalist Tele man the one I used to own was a 70's Antoria Deluxe Strat neck twin HB job.

At the mo I'm liking P90's a lot for twangy bluesy lower gain stuff, so does any one have an opinion of these http://www.guitarguitar.co.uk/electric_guitars_detail.asp?stock=04071510024818

I'm not expecting much on a guitar of this price but I've read some good things about Squires quality recently.

Are the P90's in that standard size for upgrading later?

Well I bought a CV Tele instead. Here's the Pics..

All the recent Squiers I came across were surprisingly good.

Those P90's should be standard size. I can't see why they wouldn't be.

I'm not a big fan of agathis as a body wood for a Tele. It's alot like mahogany and it weighs a tonne. An agathis Tele with P90's will sound more like a Gibson SG or LP jr. than a Tele.

The Classic Vibe series are stunning. IMO better than a MIM.

Thanks for the reply. I guess my Antoria didn't sound like a Tele either, but it sure played like one and felt great (RIP)

A lunchtime visit to the local guitar emporiums is on the cards I guess :)

Everyone needs a Tele.

Err... Agathis body ? Forget it. Get a second hand MIM or MIJ instead.

My 2 cents.

I really rate the Highway One teles, but the Baja teles are good as well. Can I have one too?

+1 for the Classic Vibe teles, they are excellent!

I tried the new Thinline one the other day and it was very nice too, a little neck heavy, but sounded good!

I bought a Thinline last weekend with a view to adding a set of BKPs and a four-way switch. It's a hell of a guitar for the money - better quality than the non-CV Squiers, the MIMs, and the Bajas.

Incidentally, I played the Squier Tele Custom II with the P90s during my Tele quest and found it disappointing. Sounded a bit dead; had some chisel marks on the neck. You might be able to find a better example.

Even though you're on a P90 kick, I'd recommend trying the Classic Vibe Custom with the rosewood neck. Less twangy and with more grunt than the CV 50's or Thinline. Roll back the tone control and it might just do it for you ...

Cheers Froglord I'll put that on the to Try list.

Thinlines, have peaked my curiosity, I've always fancied a semi I also fancy a tele. Is 2 birds with 1 stone a possibility????

problem with 2 birds with one stone is that it sometimes turns into buying 3 different guitars (the original which was meant to kill 2 birds, and then the 2 extra guitars when you realised it didn't)...

I was playing a Fender Blackout Tele a while ago, was very impressed with it for a £500 Tele. Pickups weren't devastatingly great but hey, we all know what to do about that little problem.

grrr, the quote thingy has stopped working again...

are you sure it wasn't twinfan (the other dave... well, there are at least three of us on here) who recommended the tonerider distortion? I only got mine pretty recently (though i post so much online i can't remember what i've recommended to whom  so I'm not saying it wasn't me... )

regarding the tonerider pickups in the CVs... I came across a thread on TDPRI where apparently they're made in the same factory as the toneriders, but they might be made to slightly different specs? Not sure, and it is second-hand info, but the thread is there if you do a search... claimed to be info from the guy running the factory or something like that.
