Grind-caster - Which tele for crust/grind
« on: March 22, 2010, 03:15:24 PM »
Hey boys. My drummer and I are considering to make a old school punk/grind band in the vein of Extreme noise terror & Sublime cadaveric decomposition. Im really considering to make myself a hotrodded telecaster for this project. Since most of the music will be fast powerchords, it would be really nice to have that twangy dense, punching sound from a telecaster.

1. Which kind of tele should i get - Alder, poplar or ash?
2. Which pickup set should i get?
3. Listen to this music for "inspiration" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0-GHNykYqrg

Just get a squire tele and some bareknuckle sinners.

For £100 more you could get a fender, but if your just playing heavy gain and fast powerchords I wouldn't worry to much about specific tonality affecting things.

I think youd be better of with an ibanez with humbuckers IMO.

Ha, and here I am sat in a Fukpig shirt.

What do you want to spend on the guitar?

A warpig is the pickup for you, as far as I'm concerned.

Well as far as my rig goes, i have 2 guitars with warpigs so far :P

I just want a totally different guitar  now. So my first thought was to get a tele. Probably a pine one :) Get a hot pickup. but not too hot. Im thinking something like a piledriver here. I long for that twangy tele sound for it. All im gonna do with that guitar is to flur out powerchords at 280 bpm

And, like it or not, look like a Telecaster player.

Shame man, shame.

If you specifically want a single coil, Sinner.

I've had a crust day, having read this earlier.

Get a piledriver in there. Or ask Tim to wind one until the bobbin is fit to explode.

ok, I'm gonna go with something a little different here as you've asked to retain a little twang - ask Tim about doing a Pig90 in a MQ package (i.e. P90 in a humbucker casing).  If he can coil tap it too, that would be even better so you can have a lower-output option with more of a traditional P90 tone.

The Pig90 is a cross between a P90 and a Warpig - there is someone here on the forum (sorry, can't remember who) that has done some great doom recordings with the Pig90.

With any other single coil, I think you'll miss the low-end chunk (even with a Piledriver).
