More PRS madness - do they think they're Gibson???
« on: March 25, 2010, 11:35:15 AM »
New prototype 2 piece bridge on a Singlecut.

* Fretboard binding
* 24.5" scale length
* Two volumes, two tones
* Three way toggle
* Two piece, top wrapped tune-o-matic style bridge assembly
* Mahogany body and neck
* Maple top

Err, why don't they just call it a Les Paul and be done with it???????????

Have you ordered it yet?  :lol:

I love the colour but I dunno... dare I say the top is just too extreme for me, and it's too glossy. I really like lived in guitars, as gorgeous as loads of PRS guitar are I would spend too much tiome cleaning them instead of playing them. I had an offer to swap my old looking '57 R.I LP for some cracking PRSi and even a Suhr but turned it down.

It's really just another Singlecut/SC245 variant, but I am curious about the bridge and tailpiece.

Do they now think there's some inherent tonal benefit in the separate bridge/tailpiece as opposed to a wraparound bridge?  And are these parts made out of some kind of "unobtainium" which makes them preferable to Gotoh, Schaller or whatever?  (I think the squared-off corners are really ugly)

Personally I've come to the conclusion that I prefer the one-piece wraparound approach - it looks and feels better, it's much less fiddly and I think it sounds better too (although it's impossible to tell for sure without trying both on the same guitar).
BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds
BKPs I Had:  RY+Abraxas, Crawlers, BD+SM

I hadn't even noticed the tail piece, yeah that's uglier than I am and that's saying something!

I dunno what they're playing at Phil.  They're trying to steal Gibson's heritage as far as I can see, what with their PAF wire pickups and nitro finishes too.....

I still don't like their 4 knob layout. Would get in the way

I was like what are you on about but then realised it's different from regular Les Paul layout. Weird.

Because it's very "acceptable" - it's a Les Paul copy.....

Didn't they originally wire it so the bridge pickup volume is closest to the player's hand - so it's almost like a left-handed Gibson control harness, transplanted into a right-handed guitar!   Not sure if they carried on wiring it that way, it may have been too confusing.

Come on Dave, stop torturing yourself - buy it and get it over with  :lol:

If you're looking for an excuse .......... how about ...... you've got several top end guitars, you've recently bought a "much lower price tag, making it a great working tool that I don't have to be paranoid about taking care of" ... err... how about you want one to play when there's an "r" in the month??  PDT_007

I don't like this PRS - if I wanted a Les Paul, I'd buy one with the right name.  A Gibson.

Oh, I did!

I wish PRS would make an alternative to a Les Paul, instead of just a bloody copy.

Thinner, lighter body..... fewer knobs..... basically a hardtail version of the old Singlecut Trem, or a singlecut version of the Custom 22.  Oh wait, they stopped making that too.  :?

I think its great - in fact they should go further and do a P.O.S finish 1999 reissue with 'vintage' 25' scale length.

Makes my unbound old birds single tailpiece 245 ever more valuable in my eyes  :lol:
