I don't like this PRS - if I wanted a Les Paul, I'd buy one with the right name.  A Gibson.

Oh, I did!
so you'd only buy a les paul shaped guitar if it has Gibson on? hmmmmm strange post that

Didn't they originally wire it so the bridge pickup volume is closest to the player's hand - so it's almost like a left-handed Gibson control harness, transplanted into a right-handed guitar!   Not sure if they carried on wiring it that way, it may have been too confusing.

i have been known to do it backwards occasionally - just because it makes more sense to me to have the bridge pickup volume closest to the bridge and work out from there.

I have switched to doing it the other way because people expect it - but after just wiring my PRS a like for a mate he got really confused.... i re-wired his LP the other way round years ago, and he got very used to it :D

I like this - would still prefer it over a gibson for the few small improvements - full width tenon, modern styling etc etc... but the bridge definately could be more gracefull and still different to a normal TOM... just looks different for the sake of it at the moment

Sorry - came out a bit wrong didn't it!

I was trying to say if I personally wanted a Les Paul type guitar I wouldn't look at PRS.  For me, if I'm spending that amount of money, I'd want a good Gibson.

I liked the original single cut. It was different enough from the Les Paul.

This just looks so wrong on so many levels.

And that top is way over the...eeehhhhmm... top.

I'd compare that guitar to a BMW boy racer car. It's all too much and overdone and you just know the owner must be a c--k.

i don't really see what the problem is. it's not like gibson never nicked a shape off anyone else when they thought it was more popular.

They had a go at making a couple of superstrats back in the hair metal days, but I can't think of too many other shapes they've actually nicked (let's forget the Jimi Hendrix "Strat"....  :? :P ).  They mostly just make small changes to existing models in a feeble attempt to follow trends.

Going back to PRS, I guess making "copies" is what most other guitar makers, even high-end ones, do.  But I always thought PRS became successful because they didn't try to follow the pack, they just made a few variations on a couple of basic designs and stuck to them.

Now they have far too many models, most of which are just microscopically-tweaked versions of previous ones, and just when you're getting used to them they're discontinued and replaced by something else.  I mean how long did things like the SC250, SC245 and CE Alder actually last?  They seemed to have the life cycle of mayflies.  :?

i was thinking of the les paul junior double cut... far as i'm aware, it was brought in to counter fender's strat, which looked a lot more modern. It's not an exact copy, by any means, but then neither is the PRS (though it's probably a bit closer to the LP than the LP junior is to a strat).

I forgot about the hendrix strat

And aren't PRS's double-cut models loosely based on the LP junior/special doublecutaway shape? THe early PRSes were very close to doublecuts in looks... Seems like they're not doing anything different.

flipping round the firebird and adding a large scratchplate.... that was one of the most fendery moves on gibsons part, of the classic designs anyway.   although the original firebird was also apparently a reaction to fender... they just went and made it a lot more fendery later

I dunno why but I REALLY like that!  8)

Because it's very "acceptable" - it's a Les Paul copy.....

Nah, I just like the finish tbh!

I'd like it if it was on a V or an Explorer or a Strat etc. Just looks a bit 'classier' on a LP style imo

If it didn't have that ugly look tailpiece then I'd like it. Would be better if the strings went through the body.

I actually like that, it could do with being a bit less shiny but if they release it I'll have to go and try one.

The Guitar Centers here have many new Gibsons and PRS pieces.  Unfortunately Gibson has been taking heat over inconsistent quality for a while now.  I am thinking PRS can build a better Les Paul that Gibson at the moment.  I like the Double Cut Les Paul.  Can't find those very often.  And the PRS cheaper end guitars in that $600-800 range play pretty well.  No fancy pimped out looking tiger striped tops.  They have a reddish pink flamed top PRS at the store.  It probably plays well, but it gets about as much playing time as the other uber feminine looking Music Man pink and purple Steve Morse guitar...  I can't imagine doing a cover of "Ace of Spades" with either of those guitars...

I won $50,000.  Spent $45,000 on sex, drugs, and rock and roll.  The rest I wasted.

too glossy. too shiny. makes me want playing it with silk gloves, and that's not right.

Nope...

Wouldn't mind seeing a different colour maybe, but that top, in that colour is pretty much "Next!" in my opinion...

I see what folks are saying about the tailpiece, reminds me of Meccano for some reason - wouldn't actually bug me though.

Overall, I've got no beef with it as a guitar. I can even see how with less flame and a nicer colour, that I might even be tempted to try one. There again, I'm no big fan of PRS anyway, and I'd be quite surprised if ever end up owning one of their guitars

They have a reddish pink flamed top PRS at the store.

If that's a late 80's Bonnie Pink Custom 24, grab it......
