It arrived yesterday and having been impressed by the ones I have played at the shows I have attended, when this one came up for sale I just had to have it. It's the actual guitar Guitarist magazine reviewed in October 2004. So... what can I say about?  :?:

Simple really, it's quite possibly the best guitar I have ever played. Incredibly versatile, the Tyler 59 neck profile initially feels a meaty handful (oh err!)    but within minutes you forget about it and revel in the comfort it provides.

Tonally the versatility is astounding. It's either an incredible sounding Strat or with the mid boost kicked it, it approaches the meat and depth of humbucker equiped guitars such as a PRS.

The fit and finish are flawless. You can tell that it's been crafted with passion and care. What more could I need.... ummm. Another, in the Burning Water finish!

It was not cheap... £1875 including postage. Worth every penny though.

Hey man, just wandering; what do you think of your Ibanez Prestige S1520FB? i have the S1675FM Prestige, and i love it! You don't see many people playing S-series guitars and i can't figure why. Sure- they don't have much wood, which can be a bit of a bugger in terms of tone, but the wood they do have is good, and they are just about the most comfortable guitar to play in the world. Despite their rather thin frame, they have a good weight behind them, and i couldn't ask for a nicer neck either. Impressed with mine all the way! Any thoughts?
LOVING the Mules!

Hmmm, I like this one so much I have already phoned for a quote on a second...

HJM,

The cats already tried the Tyler case out, but learnt to it's cost that trying to claw the lid was  abad idea... the case closed on top of him!

Ratrod,

Amazingly it's an Alder body. Apparently James never lets on how it is done. Suhr have offered similiar finishes but they don't have quite the same eye popping unique'ness to them.

Indysmith,

The Ibanez is an 'ex' so to speak. It got sold to fund the first PRS and although the Ibanez was an excellent guitar (the Lo Pro Edge is the best double locking system out there IMHO) I've not regreted the decision to sell it. I've also had an S540LTD (in Emerald Green). I've always thought the S series was Ibanez's best design. Great neck but in the end I wanted something with a little more 'meat'.

I have had a play on a mates Tyler and it played beautifully ( unlike me :) - possibly the best "S" type I have ever played- and he has several Strats too including early 1960's and a Tom Anderson- the Tyler was the nicest in my view. So I am ever so slightly envious.

Tylers are awesome and the Arctic Schmear is one of the best finishes Jim does.
My mate was the UK distributer for Tylers for years and actually owns Michael Landau's Les Paul, original Burning Water (the one that started it all) and recently Landau's black Classic.
Here's my Hollowbody Se HD as featured at NAMM in January, one of the first hollows Jim built.
