Les Paul Traditional?

OK I may be overcoming my adversion to Gibson as a brand - and I am in the market for a LP - don't really like the 'tone chambers' (i.e. gaping holes) of the newer standard, but the traditional looks good and I could stretch to getting one.  Anyone tried one?  Can you recommend it?

Also like the faded studio in brown - could be a good guitar for the MQs I have uninstalled!

Have you tried a chambered one. I think they're lush.

Yep, I'm really happy with mine, I went through every single one in the shop and it came down to 2 that sounded and felt the best to me. Out of the two this one was not the nicest looker, but it's the one that talked to me. She's not perfect by any means, wasn't the prettiest of the bunch, she even has imperfections, but they are ones I can live with. She had character and as I said was head and shoulders above the others in the shop I tried.

Yeah I have tried the chambered ones - and I have a Fender Esprit, which is essentially a chambered double cut with a Fender neck profile (more my sort of thing)- so I don't really want the chambered sound. 

Shobet - looks very nice - does it put out the traditional Les Paul sound.  I'm still not terribly keen on the way LP's look - but I as I am mainly playing Southern Rock, Beano era Clapton, Peter Green and Led Zep at the moment and have a few quid saved up for something else that I no longer need, I thought I would take the plunge into LP territory.

That's a nice looking LP Huw - does it weigh much? I played a really nice one recently (an 80s LP standard) but it weighed over 11lbs!

@Elliot - Yep, she sounds like what I'd expect a Les Paul to sound like. It was quite interesting in the shop how some of the individual sounds change for the different guitars. Some were duller, some were brighter. If I was you I'd try as many as you can get your hands on.

I believe they've been weight relieving Les Pauls them since the late 80s on the sly.

It would be interesting to carry out a side-by-side recording comparison with Twinfan's Francine. Are you up for it Dave?

@Ian - she's slap on 4KG, so about 8.8lbs

Yep!  We need a neutral player though, I sound the same whatever guitar I play!

Does it have to be a 'Paul Elliott? Have you thought about a 339? - yeah I know, I am only saying that cos I have one but I think they have a great feel and the tone is very pleasant..even with me playing it.

Ah, I may be a non-laddish, two-pints-and-fall-asleep-in-a-corner little geek.... but I do know quite a bit about football.  :P

Mostly in a facts-and-figures kind of way, I must admit.  I follow the results, the transfers, the manager sackings.  I don't actually go to football matches, and I can't really see the tactical "shape" of a game when I watch it.  But I've spent 20+ years working with football fanatics and it's slowly rubbed off on me.

I tried one, way back, and it was quite good. Not set up properly but it was comfortable on the uh.. curvey part of the hand.

And the sustain was MENTAL. Like seriously.
