My iTunes wont recognise that my ipod is plugged in, to update the library! Its really annoying me as I want the bloody thing updated! The actual computer recognises it but nothing happens in iTunes

Have you got the latest version of iTunes? I know iTunes OK on the Mac but I have no iPod so can't help you much....I'd download the latest version and see if it helps!

I have the latest one. I tried reinstalling and it worked! YAY! Delete this thread :lol:

On a side note, I really am not liking the reliability of itunes/ipod stuff. Wish I just got a creative labs one instead!

I've got a PC and an iPod and sometime iTunes doesn't recognise my iPod. I've found rebooting the PC and swearing fixes it.

I never found iTunes to be that great with my pc, so I use a piece of software called anapod by red chair software. I used to get problems with iTunes not copying the files across properly so when you tried to play them it just skipped to the next track. Oh and the best thing is that you can retrieve your mp3s from your ipod back to your pc, and also it won't try to "synchronise" your pc with your ipod then lose them all.

I might try that. Is the layout similar to iTunes (which I really like the layout of)? And can itunes libraries be imported into that?

Software that runs on the Mac or PC that transfers the music to the iPod and manages the music collection.

Anapod is made to integrate with windows explorer, so just looks like another drive, which means it doesn't look like iTunes. The iTunes library is just a directory of your pc that iTunes looks at so all your music will be available to Anapod as well.

Ohh I see. The only trouble is that I like to have all my songs in m4a format as it means I can fit more onto the iPod. Windows Media Player wont play the m4a files.. then again I can just download realplayer for free.. Oh yeah, I have music all over my computer (well in 2 main folders :lol: ), will I have to stick it all into one big one?

I probably should have explained that anapod is for copying music to your ipod rather than an actual player. it will copy all the files over that itunes does, but without trying to remove files that are missing from your pc.

So basically, if I still use itunes to listen to music, convert to m4a etc, I can still use anapod to transfer? Sounds good, as itunes is a pain in the arse recently. However I just thought... it may be because my usb slot isnt a hi speed usb 2.0 thing, its a really old computer (PII :lol: ) New laptop for xmas though, cant wait!

My USB port is 1.2 or whatever, and it still works just fine. Tells me I should ahve a USB 2.0 though all the time, but I just ignore it.
