Best BKP pickups for a Down tuned Schecter
« on: April 09, 2010, 04:45:41 PM »
I have a Schecter C-1 (Mahogany body, Rosewood finger board, maple neck and top) which I recently down tuned to C-standard - it still has stock pickups in it (Duncan Designed HBs) and they just don't seem to be able to hold up the lower turning. It feels like the clarity just fell out of the bottom end. I'm looking at upgrading them to some BKPs and had my eye on the Warpigs, but read a couple reviews that said they weren't very compatible with Mahogany bodies. The guitar will primarily be for rhythm work so I'm not very concerned about solo potential in the pickups. Mostly just want to have a nice fat bottom end with some clarity clean or dirty. Any suggestions?

When you down tuned, what gauge did you switch to?

i've got warpigs in a les paul and they're perfect! mahogany and warpigs go well together unless it's a very dark guitar. if it's mostly middy it's ok.
BUT i had some problem with warpigs in a basswood guitar tuned in B so i don't suggest them for that kind of purpose...
Mule, MQ, Stockholm, CS, RY, MM, PK, ANB, CNB, AWP, CWP, PiG90...

too many? ;)

They could stand to be thicker, IMO.

But they shouldnt be tooooo bad

The downtuned clarity pickups supreme

Painkillier
Ceramic nailbomb
Cold sweat
Ceramic warpig

Now, can you be more specific about the sound you want?

Queens of the Stoneage, Foo Fighters, Them Crooked Vultures is the sound and style I prefer. I'm down-tuning to get a wider range in my rhythm playing (access to the low C and D chords) vs. a thrash-metal sound. So I'll be playing with a Big Muff Pi instead of a max'd-out Boss MT-2.

In which case I'd go for something along the lines of Rebel Yell, Black Dog, or even Mule or Emerald in there...
