Speaker Shoot out
« on: April 09, 2010, 11:38:17 PM »
Just found this clip on You tube, don't know if anyone's stumbled across it before, but i found it really really useful to be able to compare different speakers across different makes.  It's certainly given me a few ideas.

I never realised how bad the G12T-75's were til i hear this!

The TTs left me cold, I liked the V30s and Green backs.

I think there's too much preamp gain for a decent comparison, the Rivera Fizz is colouring the tone too much.  The master is way low and the speakers are not moving enough.  All you can hear is a brighter / darker tone comparison at lower volumes.

An opportunity missed IMO :?

I liked the Vintage 30, the G12 H and the Swamp Thang.

Too bad they didn't demo the Jensen C12N.

what tom jackson says resonates with me. I'm not a gear head and cosequently not well informed but a speaker
works in a range and what's put through it is easily changed.I often hear the V 30s being likened to an ice pick or whatever but is easy to lessen the treble on your amp(or guitar) to soften it.
also at good vol levels they perform differently than when quiet. same with you amp, completely different when
cranked, not just the level of distortion but the quality of the tone. then it(tone) changes depending on the room your in .then clean, crunch or driven all causing different responses.
so speakers do have a label, bright , punchy or whatever but imo that it's fairly easy to get a good sound out of them all, just a matter of tweaking.
