Decision time approaching
« on: April 13, 2010, 02:33:20 PM »
I may well be in the position of needing to get some cash together soon and potentially having to sell my amp and guitar  :(.

If I do have to do this I will be on the lookout for replacements - it's more likely that the guitar would go first as I love my Martamp too much.

Any thoughts on good and fairly cheap strats? I'm hoping it doesn't come to it but need to be ready to react when it does. Even if it does I may well decide to shop around for a decent HB guitar first as I've always wanted one I got on with but can't afford a Modern Eagle (the nicest HB guitar I have ever played) a la Dave!

Cheers!
I think I hate being indecisive.

yeah - I'd thought about Yamaha but realised I'm a bit of a luddite when it comes to the classic strat shape!

Squier Classic Vibe Strat.  Take your pick, '50s or '60s.  Done.

Hope it doesn't come to that, though!
BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds

did he not do that already???

my thoughts woudl be to avoid another strat, especially if its cheaper - it will just make you miss that one you already have

I would get a CV squire Strat and sell the neck on ebay and get a Warmoth neck which might cost you an extra £75.
You would have a very good guitar then.

If you like thinner necks just buy the CV squire and keep it as it is.  Great guitars.

The Vintage Icons seem good at silly prices, I've only tried a Tele but it was very good.

I think he meant the TV

Otherwise, I agree on this...

How much you looking to spend?

I think the CVs are very good, but they've got weeny necks compared to my CIJ and Roadworn - might be nice for you, wouldn't for me. You'd have to try them. (EDIT: tomjackson came up with the same worry!)

Will look them up! Cheers.

Depends on what I get for the strat if I sell it. Anywhere around £500 I imagine. The roadworns may be out of my range - perhaps a CV body and warmoth neck, that's a good idea.

You'll be first on my list Dave!

If around £500 is a possiblility, look for a second hand CIJ, I've considered buying from this guy a couple of times:

http://www.fareastguitars.co.uk/usedguitars.htm

I think someone else on here has and had a good experience.

He's not got any strats right now, but he seems to be in the 500-600 range for CIJ strats at the moment.

Get one of they and strip the back off the neck... sorted :D
