that's Bargain Amp Day! well, i hope it's a bargain anyway :)
i decided i needed an amp with a sweet clean tone for recording. i tried out a Traynor YCV40 in a local shop a while back and thought it had a very good clean tone, and was told at the time the price was reduced to £400. so, i decided to go and have another look. it was sold a few days ago! but he had the 20 watt version, at £299. i plugged in and it sounded ok, but nothing special. then he said, i have the 80 watt model here too. it's been here a while, if you like it i could let it go for £350! original price was around £800! now, an 80 watt 2x12 was somewhat more than i was looking for, but i plugged in, and the clean channel on this thing is really good. and the drive channel was a pleasant surprise. not, perhaps, the most characterful distortion, but entirely usable, and with plenty of gain available if you want it.
so, for £350 i have an 80 watt 2x12 combo! 4 6L6's, 3 12AX7's, all ply contruction, and seriously heavyweight. it has celestion 70/80 speakers, which haven't the best reputation, so i suspect a speaker upgrade would make it sound even better.
quite happy :)
