Pick Up advice for custom 7 string.
« on: April 22, 2010, 06:16:35 AM »
Hello

I was hoping for some advice on a new 7 string guitar I'm having built by a local luthier. It's a solid strat-style body, but extra thick. The body is 1 3/4" basswood with a 1/2" bubinga top. The neck is mahogany and an ebony fret board. I have a Hip Shot 7 bridge with strings going through the body and Hip Shot tuners.

I am a metal player transitioning into Jazz studies for the last year. So I would like the ability to achieve extreme metal tones even though the guitar won't "look" metal. In the neck I would like to have clean jazz tones. I was thinking nailbomb bridge and cold sweat neck. Any suggestions?

If by 'extreme metal' tones, you mean highly compressed - then yeah Ceramic Warpig bridge is for you.
For the neck, you could do worse than the WP neck. A bit overkill, but roll off for your cleans and it'll sound pretty tasty.

Best advice, as always: Ask Tim! (contact details on front page of BKP site).

Oh, and welcome to the forums.
