Recommend me a Pedal or two
« on: April 28, 2010, 10:53:40 PM »
Right so i have just joined a cover band after spending two years busting my eardrums in a metal band - previously relying on one guitar sound from my Pod 2.0 strapped up to my Laney solid state 4x12, but now i need a few extra sounds with the aid of a footpedal to control them (or a third arm if anyone has one going spare).

Now the amp is staying put, as it will serve its purpose for now, but i was looking at maybe a pod xt or x3 live, even though thats the high end of the price brakcet im thinking it would be worth it. Does anyone have any suggestions? I remember years back the GT6 was king....

So far the tunes i have learnt for this band:

Pink Floyd - Time & Comfortably numb
Killers - Mr Brightside
The Who - Wont get Fooled Again
Vampire Weekend - A Punk
U2 - Get on Your boots
Audioslave - Cochise
The Doors - LA Woman

and other various ones, about 90 mins worth of tunes is the target, so there needs to be a fair bit of functionality in it, ideally very easy to use too, as i get wound up very easily :D

Thanks in advance

Are you unhappy with the POD 2.0?
If you just want more convenience why not look for one of the FBV controllers?

For most of those songs you need a good delay pedal. Boss DD-3 wouldn't be a bad choise.

Personally I'd rather hear somebody play those covers with a small valve combo and just a few pedals, say a tonerider Tubescreamer, chorus and delay.

my Pod is an old style one which wont work with the new pod pedals, gutted!

At the mo i also have a Boss OD2R (i think - the one with a remote *extra noise* switch), a wah and i can get a few nice sounds but it doesnt sound overly professional, maybe its just my playing!

Hmm i think for those songs, you'd need a muff, a fuzz and a good quality transparent OD.

However if you're using a solid state amp i'd jst keep the pod or get an XT and fiddle with the presets, will probably sound more like the real pedals than the real pedals would through a solid state
