MODS: Request re Seconds out
« on: April 29, 2010, 01:54:05 PM »
Yo, Mr. Mod/s!

Awhile back there was the option to reply in seconds out posts. I think it would be fandabadozi if we could reply to them again. Everyone here has bags of forum decorum and maturity so being appropriate isn't an issue (?). (Sorry if it's been asked before)

Please consider, ta!

Yeah, I wondered why they cut that: it never seemed to cause any problems.

"Everyone here has bags of forum decorum and maturity..."

But would we be able to resist certain subjects..?

Consider the following:

Would we always manage to avoid the temptation to start jovial "Roo-baiting" in telecaster threads?
What if Johnny (Mac) were ever to sell his prized, er, amplifier? (EDIT: Imagine the thread title, there isn't a single thing he could write, which includes the name of the amp, that wouldn't cry out for some amusing pleasantries )

Still, I guess the seller could lock the thread by hand if they were worried about distracting input...

I meant in regards to Harmony Central style price baiting. Just a couple of rules would solves those issues; Afghan Dave is banned from seconds out, Telecasters are banned from seconds out and Johnny isn't allowed to pimp his Koch  :P

An Error Has Occurred!
You can't report your own post to the moderator, that doesn't make sense!

I think the problem was that Seconds Out threads became rambling off-topic discussions (though I can't imagine how that happens  ), and therefore a weeks-old thread about something already long-sold would end up at the top of the list.

A bit unfair on the chap who's just listed his Fneder Stratoblaster and was hoping someone might actually notice it.

Good points from philly and jon there.

But, the points complement each other well - if the item/s still for sale, allow discussion. If everything in the threads sold, delete the thread, it cant rise up again because of off topic stuff.

I dont really see the harm in OT babble so long as the items are still for sale.

Actually, not delete, lock. I suppose its conceivable that the thread would be a useful record, for whatever reason.

^ agreed. if someone wants to prove who else owned it when selling again, for example.

Anyone fancy doing a test?

I would say keep it like that. I was very annoyed when I tried to sell a guitar once when someone posted that it was overpriced. By then I had already sold it for the asking price so just showed what they knew but if I hadn't it would have totally undermined the sale.
If you want to chat about it use PM imo

I agree - I don't see why anything needs to be discussed "in public", especially price negotiations.  If people are interested they can use a PM.
