LSR Roller nut, should I?

I bought a used LSR nut on ebay, I've been thinking of having it installed on my Jim Root tele. Main reason is so that I don't have to worry about filing the nut slots for heavier strings when ever I want to tune down or what ever.

I've asked about but have been told by one tech that he replaces them quite regularly because people seem to have problems with harmonic overtones?

What are you thoughts?

The phrase USED LSR nut worries me - why was it removed from the last guitar?

If your tuning stability is ok then I would leave well enough alone
If you were using a trem I might say otherwise

Alternatively get an Earvana and have it fitted by your tech - that will make a nice difference

As far as I know, the seller blocked his tremolo and went with a Tusq nut.

It looks to be in perfect order though.

Tuning stability is fine but the reason I'm considering it is because it'll be easier to fit heavier gauge strings with the LSR rather than messing nut slots on the stock nut (don't really want to have to take it to a tech for something so simple and I can't afford files).

had one on my last strat plus and it worked great with the tremelo , i have a new one ready to replace the wilkinson
nut on my current strat which is apparrently an easy job.i'd be worried changing a normal nut for an lsr though as it's probably not striaghtforward. i'd listen to feline on this one.

Maximum string gauge per slot for

5th string - .048"
6th string - .059"

How heavy were you planning the strings to be?

Nothing heavier than a 56 for the Low E. Lowest I'll be tuning to is C

It's not an easily reversible mod - the front edge of the nut needs to sit about 3/32" further forward than a normal nut, so you have to make the nut slot wider.

I've also heard they kill sustain, though that may be a myth!

If you do have it fitted and dont like it - Earvana do a drop in replacement that features the compensated tuning - so all is not lost

I got the LSR installed. More expensive than I was expecting but the tech done a very good job.

The tone has changed, a bit more 'zing' acousticly and a bit more bite when adding gain but I quite like it. Stays in tune a lot better too.

Only thing I didn't like was the tech had fitted 9's, I'm used to 10's/11's so the strings are wimping out on my picking  :lol:
