Most versatile strat pickups and wiring
« on: May 09, 2010, 08:32:39 PM »

Looking to replace the hot noiseless in my jeff beck custom artist..loved the guitar, not satisfied with the sound (both OD and clean) is average at best..So any idea on the most versatile strat setups?

only SSS configuration as my guitar is not swimming pool routed...

Music played will be Radiohead, Oasis, coldplay, muse and other alternative and ambience music (vintage sound is not required but its a bonus ) and need to take pedals well. If possible also being able to play hard rock such as porcupine tree etc :D

Amp is fender deluxe reverb reissue

so many pickups these days and im not in the USA so i cant try these pickups before purchasing..

hi niev, i have an irish tour set in mine, they're great. lovely cleans but cranked they're the  business, got them in a loaded pickguard so a very easy swap.i'm sure you'll have more advice and from what i've heard all the strat sets
are 1st class.by the way i had lace sensor gold noiseless in my current strat which where sterile sounding in comparison.good look

Pickups election is a very personal decision, I've got Mother's Milk loaded and they work really nice.

About versatile wirings, there are a lot. I went with my own "Hermetico's Stratosphear 2 mod". For this mod I needed a 5-way Superswitch and a 4PDT on/on switch.

The 4PDT gave me two modes (stock and alternative) so, I have the following switching options:

Stock:

1. Neck
2. Neck in parallel with Middle
3. Middle
4. Middle in parallel with Bridge
5. Bridge

Alternative:

1. Neck in parallel with Bridge (Tele middle position like, very nice)
2. Neck in series with Middle (virtual neck humbucker)
3. Neck, Middle and Bridge in parallel (weak but round sound)
4. Middle in series with Bridge (virtual bridge humbucker)
5. Neck in series with Bridge (virtual open humbucker)
