Heavenly -- GREAT power metal from ... France?!

Heavenly -- Fantastic power metal band out of France. There are bits of so many bands in their music: Helloween, Gamma Ray, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Alcatrazz, Jake E Lee Ozzy ... and none of the cheese you get from bands like Silent Force, Primal Fear, Edguy ...

I really liked the first track, but it wasn't at all what I expected - seemed almost like a throwback to White Sister or something with the big chorus and that keyboard sound!  :D

The second track is a lot more "power metal", still really good but less my kind of thing.
BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds
BKPs I Had:  RY+Abraxas, Crawlers, BD+SM

reminds me of europe, nothing new here but clearly a premier class act with 2 unfeasably talented guitarists.

Check out this one "Ode to Joy" from their latest album "Carpe Diem" -- 110% pure power metal!

Their latest album is their strongest i think -- you don't get more power metal than this, also some killer solo work  :D

That's put me right off!

There are lots of good bits, but it has the element of power metal I really can't stand - that super-fast drumming!

I agree. I thought it was WEAK, and also recycled a bunch of riffs from Virus. I checked out a couple of other songs and was less than impressed at those as well.

All said, Virus is still a great album!!

Fair points -- i guess their latest may be overkill for power metal!  Virus --  must give it another full listen through :)

The drumming is fast, but at least it's not blast beat fast like in DragonForce or Cellador.

Are there blasts in Dragonforce songs? I though all he did was rolling kicks with snare on 2 and 4 ad nauseum.

Though I've never listened to them for more than two or three tunes at a time, under duress.

I don't know the definition of a blastbeat, but the drumming on Dragonforce sounds like someone machine-gunning ball bearings into a dustbin.  :|

Aye, it's triggered to all hell so he barely has to hit it. He's sloppy as hell live, so it'd probably be a real struggle if he had to bash it with any power.

Strictly speaking blasts are unison or etxremely fast alternating kick and snare grooves. So at 180 odd bpm you'd be playing a snare on every semiquaver. I'd think it'd sound quite bizarre in stuff like Dragonforce. It's usually a black/death metal and grindcore thing, though it comes from crust punk, to start with really.

Dragonfarce does not use blast beats. Cellador does, though it's in measured doses.

Cellador are/were an INCREDIBLE musical outfit. I saw them live once; sounded the same as their album.

Never heard that band before. Make me think a lot of Stratovarius. I'm a long way from a power metal fan but I find that a lot more tolerable than most. Just daft fun, I guess. Though I worry they take it quite seriously

There aren't any blastbeats in that though, 0.56 in this video is what constitutes a blastbeat,

The snare's what makes it, really. It should sound like a skipping techno cd!

I can't believe it's 4 years since the Cellador album, forgot how good it is!

This should qualify as a blast beat:

1st one about 20 seconds in...a good song but not their best.

Brilliant!!! He uses a weird see through drum kit with thin drums, sounds kind of cr@ppy (well, he did last time i saw Dragonforce). The drummer does get points for playing in Bal Sagoth though, who are a decent epic fantasy black \ death metal type band:
