I've never listened to them for more than two or three tunes at a time, under duress.

Two or three songs? You've basically heard all they have to offer then. All the other material is a remix of what you have already heard.

Check out this one "Ode to Joy" from their latest album "Carpe Diem" -- 110% pure power metal!

That's put me right off!

There are lots of good bits, but it has the element of power metal I really can't stand - that super-fast drumming!

I agree. I thought it was WEAK, and also recycled a bunch of riffs from Virus. I checked out a couple of other songs and was less than impressed at those as well.

All said, Virus is still a great album!!

That whole performance was god-awful.  Seriously, there's nothing more disgusting than listening to grown men masturbate to someone else's superior work, you know, the 9th Symphony, universally considered the greatest piece of music ever written, by a man who was practically DEAF, having to press his ears against his piano just to be able to take in some semblance of what he was creating.

People should be put to death for covering it.

I think "universally considered the greatest piece of music ever written" is going a bit over the top!

Widely considered, perhaps.

There's no such thing as going over the top when it comes to the 9th!  :P

Well, I got my classical rant of the day out of the way so I'm happy enough!

I think the good Captain is experiencing caffeine withdrawl.

Virtually EVERY performance of classical music is in essence a cover, as most of the composers are dead and gone and virtually NONE of the original performances exist in recorded form.

That being said -- yes, the Heavenly cover is particularly bad. But there are MANY modern recordings and re-envisioning of classical pieces (generally, any piece written prior to the Industrial Revolution) that are flat-out G R E A T.

The 9th Symphony is good. But even Beethoven has pieces that are far superior in my opinion.

You see that? "IN MY OPINION". That's the bit that's missing from your post that warrants a good flaming. :)
