Fuzz factory replacement?
« on: May 15, 2010, 06:28:33 AM »
hey all,

I am looking for a new fuzz pedal.  At the moment, I am in love with the fuzz factory, but the heaviest tones on the damn thing always come along with butt loads of knob turning and oscillation and other random noises.  Does anyone know of a heavy fuzz pedal with a similar tone without all the chaos?

thanks guys for the suggestions so far,

the search really is driving me up the wall.  the tones I can get with the FF are super-heavy, rich'n creamy and the lead tone just sings, its BEAUTIFUL.....most every fuzz pedal I listen to can get heavy, but the lead tone sounds like a dog yelping while being neutered without anesthetic (fuzz war), or the tone is nice but just not heavy enough (MXR). I've listened to all of devi-ever's stuff, I need to listen some'more but maybe there is something in there that will suit my needs.

So you want the creamy heavy lead tone? Have a listen to the Musket Fuzz. It's one of the best Big Muff style pedals out there. For Fuzz Face type with a lot of gain I like my Fulltone 70s Fuzz.

btw, what is the 'problem' with the Fuzz Factory? - set it to where it sounds good and forget about it.

I think we might have a winner with the Musket fuzz

The better fuzz tones on the thing don't seem to come out unless its oscillating, and using the gate seems to cut its balls off.  Thus why i'm trying to find something more stable.

If anyone has any more killa fuzzes to recommend keep 'em comin!

fwiw, a Silicon Fuzz Face can sound REALLY thick and gainy if you want it to (and make appropriate changes to the circuit).  the first pedal I ever made was a Si FF and it was a gain monster - almost on par with a Big Muff in terms of gain.

A fuzz factory has 5 knobs while a musket has 6.  If you're looking for less knob turning then a musket (while a very good pedal) is clearly not the way to go.

I'll build anything if its possible (note: queries asking me to make your guitar sound like the wind or anything similar are way too vague - yes, someone did ask for exactly that)

PM me if you want to talk about this further.

I've a D*A*M Meathead that I love to bits. I have a Fuzz Factory too but the Meathead blows it out the water.
