Surprising Combinations

So I'm sitting here, listening to Bob Marley, the beautiful 'Wait In Vain', and it got me thinking - this guy is a Les Paul player?!

So I started thinking of guitarists who play guitars that you wouldn't necessarily expect (for whatever reasons, image, sound etc).

At the moment, I'm on two:

Bob Marley: Les Paul,
Tom Morello: Telecaster

Anyone else got any similar suggestions of surprising and unusual combinations of artists and guitars?

Telecaster isn't that unusual in metal anymore. Most famous example is John 5 (ex Marilyn Manson), although Jim Root from Slipknot also plays one.

Billy Duffy's Gretsch White Falcon...

How he kept it from feeding back I'll never know.

Steve Miller & Tom Petty - Ibanez Iceman (Icemen?) in the late 70's.

I thought Johnny Winter was better known for his firebirds.

:D The problem these days is you can get any guitar shape made in any wood combination, in the old days if you used or wanted a strat it was because it was almost the only guitar made to that scale length & with those type of wood combos + P/U style combo.

Killswitch Engage and Caparison...

...I know they are both metal as, but I'd expect Killswitch to be endorsed by ESP or Ibanez or summink.

Iron Maiden = metal!

I think they use the singlecoil size humbuckers though? Probably wrong but I remember the Iron Maiden sig strat came with JB Jrs..
