Nailbomb and EMG 85 - Dead God In Me
« on: May 25, 2010, 10:48:09 PM »
So out of boredom I decided to give this recording thing a go. So here is a partial cover of "Dead God In Me" by In Flames.

I'm playing my Epiphone SG Prophecy with an EMG 85 in the bridge for the right tracks (one rhythm and the lower harmonies) and my newly Bareknuckled Cort X-11 for the left tracks (the other rhythm and upper harmonies), through the high gain lead channel on my Engl Screamer combo.

Kinda cr@p quality, since I'm limited to using a laptop mic and Audacity :(

Maybe you can get an audio interface and then run the line out of your amp into the computer (or indeed a mic in front of the amp)? You should be able to get a tone much more representative of what you can hear in the room that way.

That said, good playing and despite the limitations in fidelity I can tell you've got some good tone going on there. PDT_003

Yeah, I really need to get some better recording stuff. Any recommendations for a good but cheap set up?

Well, if you're looking for bang for the buck the Yamaha range of USB mixers looks good. The starter is the MW10C, it would let you connect direct from the line out of your amp and a microphone simultaneously (that might be useful for blending in your mix), it has a lot more ins/outs/loops than a similarly priced audio interface and it also comes bundled with Cubase AI4 which should be a bit more flexible than Audacity.

That said, I haven't tried one so can't vouch for ease of use, sound quality, etc so check out some onlline reviews.
Personally I use an ADA preamp and a Line 6 POD XTL through a Presonus Firebox into my iMac and with the exception of my Firebox living up to it's name last summer, I've never had a problem.
