Gibson, Melvyn Franks? :S
« on: May 31, 2010, 12:12:13 PM »
Just when we thought Gibson may be getting it right (http://bareknucklepickups.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=21346.0) they bring out something like this to remind us just who they stand for.

I mean, naming it after the collector? Come on.

Meanwhile, ( face palm aside ) -  I just had to echo your initial sentiment.

To think that in a few decades time, Dave Gilmour's famous black Strat, might be re-packaged as the EXCLUSIVE ' Bert Scroggins - who can't play-  but has just won the lottery '  re-issue.  :(

I don't quite see why they didn't use something similar to what Tim here uses. Like, the Black Magic LP or something. Would've made more sense to the PG fans anyway (despite the Santana cover).

Or just call it the Peter Green/Gary Moore model.  It's unwieldy, but it doesn't need a catchy name, they're only making a few of them.

I wonder if Mr Melvyn Franks actually asked for his name to be used?

From what i've been able to ascertain, Mr Green didn't want his name on it and Mr Moore didn't even find out about it until the 11th hour.

I only wish that someone of relevent musical repute and one wholly able to assimilate it with the due historical and cultural reverence ( for example Billy Gibbons ) could have bought it.   They hopefully could have / would have been able to sheild it under their own copyrighted staus - and let it be put to rest (or appropriate use ) - with dignity.
