Battle of the chorus pedals(EH/MXR/Ibanez)
« on: June 01, 2010, 04:31:52 PM »
Yet another pedal query from me...(sorry if it's a bit dragged out)

there are 3 chorus pedals in question:

-Ibanez cs9
-Electro harmonix small clone
-mxr micro chorus
(all being brand spanking new)

so my question is: which one is the best

now I realise that this is very subjective, and each has a different degree of tweakability (and also different prices, but they are all in my price range - as I have a voucher for a music store that will cover the cost of each of the pedals)

The pedal is going to be used clean and with distortion (mostly more distortion than less distortion), and I dont have a noise gate so minimal hiss/noise is preferable. and im not really looking for an in your face warble, nor a subtle effect that you can't really notice. I want a nice shimmer and thickening up sound.

I know that I really should try them all out for myself, but I only have access to an mxr micro chorus at the moment, and thats still being sent over from another state. the ibanez and EH are in another state, not being sent over unless I put a deposit on one of them, so I wanted to get a good amount of feedback before I decide to put down a deposit or not.

Now I'm using a PRS ce22 with cold sweats in the bridge, a fender hot rod deluxe and the distortion is a combo of an MI audio tubezone and a boss mt-2 if that gives any indication of the sort of sound its going to be used for.

I'd go MXR - I've heard great clips and my Stereo Chorus was lovely  :)

I would advise you to check out:

Visual Sound Liquid Chorus
Carl Martin Chorus XII (though this is very expensive)

The Small Clone is good for a cheaper option. I wasn't that impressed by the CS9 but there are a lot of people who like it and as you said it's personal taste really so just go out and try a load and see what you like best.
Black Dogs

Previous BKP's: Riff Raff, Holy Divers, Painkillers, C. Warpig, Nailbomb, Miracle Man.

Ive tried out the visual sound double pedal (chorus and echo). Not so sure I'm a fan of this one, and also it isn't stocked by the guitar store I have my voucher for, and neither is the carl martin...

I recon i'm going to end up with the ibanez (just a bit of forsight), but i'm waiting for the micro chorus to come in so i can try that baby out.
