Do we any smokers in here?

I smoke cigars

I do occaisionally too. Got a couple of Montecristo No2s to smoke at the moment. Although I certainly wouldn't describe myself as an expect.

I also smoke cigarrettes when I'm drunk.

I predominantly smoke Cohiba and Romeo Y Julieta, almost entirely Cohiba. I used to only buy a few at a time in humidor bags but since I got a humidor a couple years ago it's got severely out of hand

These posters are a throwback to 30's uk. I remember one in a sussex pub for black cat cigarettes(i think) and it lists all the benefits of smoking, even curing bronchitis.Propaganda is as old as the hills, especially where commercial interest is concerned.

Just to make people aware, if you've had ONE ciggie in the last 12 months your Life Insurance company WILL class you as a smoker.

If you're down on your life insurance as a non-smoker and you do smoke the odd one here or there (or you solely smoke other 'herbal' materials *ahem*) and you claim, your insurer can run tests which could make your policy void.

Paddy!

Just out of interest, how would a life insurer ever prove an occasional cigarrette?  Or differenitate it from passive smoking?

Okay, so maye I exaggerated a little. They can find out.

Cotanime Testing is how Insurers find out, it's a swab of the mouth and/or hair follicle test. It allows a certain amount of passive smoking but can find out when you last had a ciggie.

interesting

funnily enough I read some statistics that said if you were poor (not sure of the exact statistics) that your life expectancy was the same whether you smoked or not. Obviously not recommending you take up smoking or anything, but it was a sobering thought.

Nice, I've been dithering over whether or not to get a humidor. I expect i'll end up the same as you if i do though

Was 1930s British cigarette advertising so overtly homo-erotic?

Hmmm, I dunno....

But one thing's certain, 1950s American cigarette advertising only featured real men's men.

I used to smoke Embassy filters. Smaller than king size and very strong. Then I went on to Golden Virginia. Contraband a course. I used little filters in them too. I did like a cigar as well and a joint but I haven't had a puff of anything at all since I quit.
I got drawn into smoking through advertising as a kid. In fact I loved tobacco adverts.

My grandfather and uncle were old Merchant Navy men, they used to smoke Capstan and Player's Navy Cut.  I don't know how strong those brands are, but I remember they both had nicotine-brown fingers!  I think that's one of the things which put me off taking up the habit.  But I did like the smell of the empty packets!  :)

I tried Capstan Full Strength once. Not bad, no filters in them. They make you dizzy. My Gt Grandad who was still around until the end of the 80's and the son of a Camden Town Bare knuckle boxer, smoked Boars Head rolling tobacco. It's the strongest stinky smoke you can imagine. He lived until he was 91. He had a heart attack once and just got up the next day as if nothing had happened, so it doesn't always kill people off. Mind you he was as hard as nails. He had around 10 kids too.

I've never smoked a cigarette, and I'm very happy with not knowing what it's like. I hate the smell of it on other people!
Besides, now I work at a famous institute that researches cancer, and which established the link between smoking and lung cancer back in the day, it would be rather rich of me to smoke now (although I know people here who do...).

My Dad has smoked for most of his life but due to very poor health over the last few months has had to give up. Up until a few years ago he smoked Senior Service. I was never a smoker though except for the odd "herbal" one and I used a truly herbal "tobacco" mixture. A mate bought me a very expensive Havana cigar for Christmas but I wont smoke it. I'll probably give it away to another friend of mine.
