Pickups for a C-7 Blackjack
« on: June 06, 2010, 07:15:11 AM »
Ok, I had a thread over in 'gear' about what 7er to get. Picked up a Schecter C-7 Blackjack of my local craigslist quickly after it was recommended (which I sold my SG, albeit to my brother, to afford). Of course, I got a lot more for the SG than I paid for the Blackjack. It came stock with duncans, and if I didn't have the cash for a set of BKPs sitting around with no other equally awesome use, I'd probably leave 'well-enough' alone. But alas. I do in fact have that cash, so I get to settle for the-best-of-the-best instead.

Even though I didn't really want to make another thread, I thought I'd be better off letting the other one fall to the bottom because it's not about the guitar anymore. If you read the other one, you know I'm playing/writing stuff similar Periphery, Sky Eats Airplane, Dream Theater and other such fun on the 7.

I use EBMM regular slinky 10s from a 6 string set with a custom gauge .62 on the low B (manager at my music store's idea), standard tuning with just the low B dropped to A. I play through a Hughes & Kettner switchblade head. With all that in mind, what pickups should I get and why? GO!

I wish I had an EBMM 7 string.

To clarify, the EBMM product I'm using is just a set of 7 strings, I only have a Schecter 7.

Got a C-Pig on the way for my 6 string though. Looking forward to that. Fitting that you'd recommend it.  :)

No biggie. My bud who's also a guitarist is giving me a hard time about wanting ceramic magnets (C-Pig, Painkiller, CS), but I have to admit the EQ on the Painkiller is super appealing. What do you think about the neck position?

I wanna bump this because all of a sudden I'm torn between a Ceramic NB and a PK for the bridge, and I could go with a PK, NB or CS neck.

What's the difference in tightness between the C-Bomb and Painkiller? Compression?

I feel like the CS is my favorite neck pickup on it's own, but in a band situation it's epic wall of tone is a bit much for the stuff I use my neck pickup for. What are the differences between the NB and PK in the neck position, and which do you prefer? Am I mistaken about the CS?
