Alls i know is that _tom_ likes oldy rock and i like metal metal, scaring-chav metal.
So, what are the current tastes here, i dont mind if its been done before, but wouldnt you all like to voice your own views?
Have fun.

LOL, yes it did work!

Hmmm ... I guess if I had to put it in 10 words or less I would say anything that has good guitar playing in it, from Jango to Malmsteen. Overall, I'm an old school metal guy.

heavily digging anything left-field and interesting right now; Hella, Marc Ribot, Sonic Youth (early stuff) and Nels Cline.

Love Zappa, jazz, Mahavishnu, some rock...but I am getting quite tired with a lot of what passes for 'new music' - how can it be new if you are just rehashing records from the 60's/70's/80's?

Metal is ok, I like Mastodon, Tool and Opeth, amongst others.
The large print giveth, and the small print taketh away...

I like anything with some creativity and originality, but I don't really listen to much heavy stuff these days. My tastes have mellowed in my old age.  :)

I like guitarists and bands that write cool riffs--the riff is where it's at! Plus, of course I like decent lead guitar playing. I've listened to just about every guitarist who recorded anything in the last hundred years (slight exaggeration), because when I used to teach guitar I would have different students ask me to figure out their favourite music and had to learn everything from Cannible Corpse to Dueling Banjos. On average I was figuring out probably 30 new songs every week.

Since you asked, here are some artists that have been instrumental (heh) in shaping my own sound over the years:

The Beatles
Early Rolling Stones
The Police
Hendrix
The Doors
Bob Marley
Rancid
Dire Straits
U2
Metallica
Tommy Emmanuel
Robben Ford
Satriani
Vai
And some guy named Joe who used to sit around and play solo jazz guitar all the time near where I grew up.

These days I listen to Lincoln Brewster a lot. He's probably the only guitarist in mainstream Christian music who's any good.

I'm into Blues, Blues/Rock, Classic Rock mostly 60s or 70s, and jazz. The british blues players of the 60s influence me the most, Clapton, Green, Beck, Hendrix. I like anything from Howlin Wolf, Cream, Blind Faith, The Doors, Rory Gallagher, early Fleetwood Mac, Traffic, Allman Bros., Jethro Tull, Zeppelin, Thin Lizzy, Jimi Hendrix, SRV, Bloomfield, Johnny Winter etc. etc.

Most of the time I'll be listening to classic rock to 80s metal/hard rock, then sometimes heavy metal, shred and blues stuff. I don't really have time at the moment to go out and discover different music but I get a lot of original stuff in the album review submissions we get at Shredaholic.com so that keeps me entertained too. There's hardly any modern bands I like, with the exception of The Darkness, Foo Fighters, thats probably about it actually

Today I'm digging the Johnny Cash American Recordings series and Unkle (dance music).

Most of my vinyl's classic rock.  CDs are folk and modern rock.  MP3's are just about anything and everything.  You name it I've got most of it - 2,000 records, 1,000 CDs & couple of 100 CDs of MP3 loaded into a Sony juke box.

Fave instrumental would be Hallucinogen and Tomita's Picture at an Exhibition.
Mother's Milk.  Mullard.  Cornford.  Mmmmm....
