I'm not in any way a football fan. I am English, but I can't find it in myself to support our over-paid under-performing team in football (or, as the Mash called it after the Slovenia game, shinball).

I did still watch the match, though mostly so I knew what people were talking about when we came back to work on Monday!

I'm glad that there will be no more of this inane football prattle and drunken louts being cretins all over the place (why is it almost all other nations have vastly more human fans than our own allegedly great nation has?).

A few things stuck me as bizarre - why were so many players out of their Premiership-winning positions? Why would you bring Heskey on (at all?) when you need goals? Why was the defending so utterly diabolical? Why were the diabolical defenders not substituted? There seemed like no game-plan (aside from using the short-corner...).

That goal being not given was obviously a blow to the English team, but as everyone has already said, England deserved to lose because they played really, really badly.

At the risk of being shot down, Tennis, Cricket, Rugby and, of course, ladies' Beach Volleyball are all far superior sports to watch (and certainly, in my experience, to play; though I've never been able to qualify for the ladies' Beach Volleyball...).

It seems to me that until the English football team gets together and used to playing with each other, until it is composed not of individuals but of team-players, and until it is managed by a long-term, committed management team who work, with the players, towards a common goal (pun fully intended), they will always only hope to make it to the last 16, rather than expecting to make it to the final and win.

But that will never happen in my lifetime. It's all driven by money, like everything else in football. Shame.

I'm a big football fan but I completely agree...... other than the Tennis and Cricket  :D

Can't really get in to tennis.  I think they need to do something about the serves as the mens game is just turning into a string of aces or missed returns and not a lot else.  Kind of gets on my tits afte a while.

I used to watch a fair bit of cricket with my housemate at uni, but that was just an excuse to spend four days on the piss.  I like watching the highlights and the 20-20 is alright but I find it really hard to maintain concentration when they only bowl one ball a minute in a test game.  Should really go and watch it live as I like sitting in fields getting drunk.  Did some work on the new stand at Trent Bridge so wouldn't mind going up there for a game  and having a propper look at it now it's finished...... not sure it's the thing for the baby though, he attracts cricket balls (was about a foot away from getting his head taken clean off as we walked past a cricket field).

Rugger is a completely different kettle of fish and is definately my favorite to watch and play (although my playing days are well over).  My bro is a big football fan and recently wnet to watch his first rugger game at the Millenium Stadium.  He couldn't believe the atmosphere with all the fans mixed up and a couple of happy coppers (he's use do football games with a hell of a lot of very angry ones with big dogs).  I'd definately preffer the little one to grow up playing rugger rather than nancyboy football.

I thnk we should have a televised professional British Bulldogs league.  That would be the only thing (other than anything with women in skimpy clothes) that could beat rugger as a spectator sport.
Advice worth what you just paid for it.

Well, at least he FINALLY got a Red Card!!! Against Portugal he should have take THREE red cards!!!
What is thw worse is having to listen the guys on TV saying that he sent a "Gerson's pass to Robinho" on the goal... They must be freaking kidding me...
