Engl E530 + ??? what poweramp
« on: June 16, 2010, 11:16:47 AM »
Hey all. im really thinking about switching out my amphead with a rack. I fell in love with the engl e530. and i found one used, cheap.
Now im just sitting here and thinking about which poweramp i should get. First of all. im a rectumfrier guy. i Always wanted one. but never had the money.
A recto poweramp would be absolutely sweet. But its way, way too expensive.

Which company makes sweet poweramps?

Engl's own poweramps are pretty good.  The E840/50 is around a grand cheaper than the recto power amp.  In fact, Thomann have a B-stock one in stock

Alternately, the Fryette power amps (formerly VHT) have a deserved reputation & are a few hundred cheaper than the recto.  If you want EL34s, the Marshall power amps are decent.

As a left-field suggestion, I love the the single-ended MJW Goldstar 10w power amp that Martinw built for me.  I use it with an Engl SE preamp & it rocks.
BKPs: HD, MM, NB, PK, CS, Ab (b&n); Am (b only); VHII, Tril (n only); IT, Slow, Sult (m&n)

Crown. Eden. Epiphane.

You really should use a valve amp, though.

If you're desperate for a transistor power amp, I've got a Marshall 9040 200 Watt a side rackmount jobby I'm not using. Open to offers, it'll be on ebay soon though.
