Hello all. I'm planning on buying a guitar or two in the near future and was wondering if you could help me in my decision-making as it relates to pickups. I keep hearing extremely well of Bareknuckles, so I'm considering them for both guitars (and what pickups I go with is a deciding factor in what I buy for both.)
What I'm looking for in the first is a nice, heavy, mahogany 7-string (like an ESP VIPER-7 or a Carvin DC727) for symphonic rock and heavier stuff, and then something versatile like a Les Paul Studio (though I'm also looking at some PRSes like the SE Singlecut, Torero, Mira, etc.) for pop, jazz, and other sundry "not brutal" applications. Until recently, I'd been thinking I'd go with an EMG 81-7/60-7 or 81-7/707 combo for the 7-string and the stock 490R/498T on the LP (or Burstbuckers/'57 Classics/whatever, it seems like you can find one used with any of the above.)
Now, I hear I can get the same sort of versatility I'm looking for in the Gibson stuff with BKs. I just know nothing about them, so I'm not sure which models I'm supposed to be considering for the job. Rebel Yells? Somebody said the Mule was also worth considering. I'm really impressed by the demo of the former, but for all I know something else BK offers would work better. I guess that's why I'm asking for advice.
As for the Carvin (if I'm not getting EMGs may as well save some scratch and forget ESP IMO), ceramic Warpigs? I've heard demos of them used for material done originally with EMGs, and it sounds pretty sweet. But again, not sure if I'd want to consider another pickup instead (Painkillers?), that's why I'm asking you guys.
Sorry for the wall of text.
