How do you post an amp, exactly?
« on: December 07, 2005, 09:45:39 PM »
Hi, well I've got my Line 6 2x12 amp up for sale on ebay, and despite what the listing said, I've decided to agree to nationwide postage in order to maximise interest, and I guess profit (*rubs hands*) in the amp.

What I want to know is, how best to package such a large item? And where do I get the materials from?

I'm sure someone here must have experience in this matter (chrisola?). Anyone help?

Thanks! :D

Haha! you are correct :P

I've sent a few in my time..

Luckily i always had an actual box for an amp though...

Best way is to go to your local guitar shop and ask them if they have any spare boxes you could have\give em a couple of £ coins for (measure your amp 1st) OR nip to a supermarket and see if you can rob one (my local supermarket has boxes for people to pack shopping into, very handy!)

Then i always put some bubble wrap in the bottom, wrapped the amp in it, then stuck it inside and put more bubble wrap on the top... the taped the whole shebang up nice andd tight.

You could use the foam corner packing bits only (like when manufacturers ship amps new) and not bother with any bubble wrap, as these keep the the amp 'floating' inside the box which is safe aswell...

Hope that helps

Dude, Proceed with care!!! Make sure in your add that you stipulate that you will not be held responsable for any damage incurred through transit,
I got stung once by some guy and a T.V, he claimed that it was sold faulty but I know it wasn't so it must of been damaged in transit(Or the guy was just a real shitehead) so if they do want such a fragile item sent via courier offer them some postal insurance, just try and make sure that you have got yourself well and truely covered! YOU CAN NEVER OVERWRAP AN ITEM!!!!!!!!

ok, thanks for all your help guys!

I know I had major concerns when I had to ship an ElectroHarmonix 16 Second Delay (not the sturdiest of units) out to Italy in it's little wooden box! Luckily it got there OK, though :phew:

Because I'd changed my plans regarding delivery after the item had received bids, I couldn't remove the bit where it said 'local pickup only', so hopefully almost all of the people bidding on it, and hopefully the winner, will live local to me. I've only had two people contact me asking about delivery. So hopefully I can just deliver it in person...hopefully!

Well, thanks for your help guys...but in the end I got lucky and the guy who won the amp lived only 10 minutes down the road! It went from £150 with 8 minutes to go to finishing on £205...cash in hand, so no paypal fees to pay  I feel quite lucky and grateful right now!
