Does anyone use this? If so, please can you advise:

1. Does it help to learn specific songs?
2. Can you easily get hold of the chords and tab for a wide range of songs?

I've also been advised to get hold of wave editing software but I don't really know what this is.  Has anyone encountered this?

Yes and yes, quite often.

You can also write your own stuff in it.

Wave editor would be for manipulating sound, usually part of a DAW, guitar pro is midi sequencing, they're different things. Why were you advised to get a wave editor?

I use it and find it helpful for learning stuff. However the quality of the files available varies in quality just like all the other tab out there.

I find it good for playing along to and listening to what's going on whilst looking at the tab and notes. However, your milage may vary.

Absolutely fantastic tool for the musician if used correctly.

Also as you asked it is great for learning if you get the right tabs

www.ultimate-guitar.com has a great collection and you should be able to find lots of stuff easily

just flick through the tabs until you find one that sounds correct then go from there with it really.

tux guitar is free and runs guitar pro and power tab tabs. i'm not saying to get it instead and cheap out (though admittedly that's what I'm doing), but you could download it to see if you use it much.

as transcend says, ug has loads of tabs. some are more accurate than others, of course.
