I've got a rather nice Martamp cabinet which I got in a deal with Lew. It's got 1970's Rola Greenbacks with cream backing instead of the usual green. How much would these go for if I were to sell them?

Also, I'm considering selling them because I need something that can handle my JVM410. The Greenbacks sound fantastic at around 3 on the volume, but I have a very loud drummer so I have to turn up to around 4 and the speakers kind of start to struggle with handling the power. Which speakers would be good to deal with the power?

I would like something that can handle metal (not scooped, mid heavy) as well as great for clean tones and anything in between. I have considered the G12K-100's as I've had them before and had good results but I'm keeping my options open.

I've had no experience of G12K's. Funds permitting the best overall combination i've found is a Fane Alnico and a V30, If your feeling particularly strong EV12L. Just had one of those in a MJW 1x12 and it's stunning

I know that you already know about the G12K-100 - go for it!  They're really superb for mid-range grind and handle high power situations extremely well.

Pete mentioned the EVM12L - I have 2 of the black labels (300W power handling each) coupled with 2 G12K-100s in a 4 x 12, and I couldn't be happier with that cabinet. I think it's a great pairing that maintains a lovely clean sparkle but also facilitates really brutal grinding metal, and I play in drop A or, for one new track, drop E (E-E-A-D-F#-B). No problems at all in the low end!

If you can't/won't stretch to the EVM12L (black or not), I'd stick with G12Ks. Alternatively, I have 3 spare Peavey 5150 Sheffield 1200s (I put one in a Fender Princeton 112 60W solid state amp which is now absurdly loud), which are also remarkably good speakers for heavy music and also hold up the cleans surprisingly well. They have a lovely frequency response, and I'd put them pretty close to the G12Ks for quality of sound for metal.

I'd say just go with the k100s again. They fit the bill.

Failing that, by a limited experience transit of property type thing maybe eminence tonkers? I have swamp thangs (and V30s and K100s), and they're maybe a bit dark for what you want, but theres a speaker line up kicking round youtube with tonkers and swamp thangs and they have a similar but less bassy, more middy sound that might fit.

they sound like the 55Hz bass-cone G12M Creambacks I sold to Lew last year, they are GREAT sounding speakers for anyone that ends up buying them off Stevepage.

as for replacements, Classic Lead 80s all the way.

My 2c:
The G12K-100 are designed for low tunings, extreme volumes and lots of gain. They will be great for such sounds, but for less brutal sounds I feel the classic V30 is still better suited, as it is a bit more "organic", less stiff.
There is a more affordable version from Eminence, the Governor, which I feel sounds a tad more aggressive.
There is also the Eminence Wizard, which is a great speaker and combines the best of the V30 and Greenbacksounds.
Current BKPs: Miracle Man, Nailbomb, Juggernaut, VHII
Past BKPS: Holy Diver, Trilogy Suite, Sinner, Black Dog

Is it a 4x12? A Marshall 4x12 with 55Hz Grey/Cream/greenbacks from that era is hard to beat IMO, even for metal!

Nah it's a 2 x 12 ported. I had rehearsal today and it sounded pretty good. I'm gonna think about this for a bit and see what I think in a while, but I'm very interested in the G12k-100s and Eminence speakers.

I might take you up on that mate, I liked the Super V's quite a bit. I'll let you know tomorrow, should be able to get packaging from work too.
