Oh bugger, I've GAS'd again :0(
« on: June 26, 2010, 11:53:16 PM »
I had no intention of buying anything, I really didn't.

I'd sold a few things, both guitar and non-guitar related, and have my car insurance due soon.

Then I found that Paul Richardson Guitars were selling the SGR guitar that was featured in Guitar Buyer magazine last month.  And it's SGR#1.  And Paul offered it to me at a great price.  And I already own SCR#1, which was featured in Guitarist magazine last year.

Yes, I'm weak.  I couldn't resist.  It arrives on Monday:

Here's SCR#1 again for those who've not seen it:

I'm so contented with the above, that I've stopped looking at guitar shop websites  :o

Could GAS be in remission?

I have to say, all this "#1" stuff is sounding very collector-ish.  :P

It does look nice though.  But I'm still not keen on the sqiggly bit at the bottom.  And since he's tweaking the SG design, why not squeeze in 2 extra frets or shift the neck pickup up a bit?

That looks like one seriously good piece of wood that guitar body is made of, it looks fantastic. Fairplay to you, yes I think you're mad, but fairplay it looks great.  8)

Another nice guitar Dave. I think you should have your own section on the forum!

 This is why we love you - that period of remission was less than a week!!!

I'd have to see them in the flesh, but I reckon that the SGR would probably be my favourite of the two.

In that pic it looks utterly gorgeous. I'd have the same reservations as Philly on the "squiggle", but I have a feeling that the guitar would win me over regardless.

Congrats :D

It was the very next day that I saw it for sale and agreed to buy it

Yeah, it does a bit, but I've bought the guitar to gig and the #1 thing is just a nice little extra.  The SGR will be tuned to drop D for a few heavier songs that we do, plus it's an ideal backup for the SCR.  A great pair or work horses.

I'll bring one of them along to the next meet up that I can attend, as you really do need to see them and play them to appreciate just how good they are.  I can't believe they're so reasonably priced...

sweet!

I'm with philly on the design, but other than that it looks sweet. And if it's a good enough guitar (and I'm sure it is), those kind of things end up being completely unimportant. :)

I'm still surprised the Tone Zone works in these kinds of guitars.  The padauk must sound very different from mahogany.

It's not as overpowering or fat/flabby.  It's punchy but crisp.
