ESP Eclipse rebell yell is cool but..
« on: July 01, 2010, 06:34:56 AM »
Hey guys got my set of rebell yells. Its very nice but still a bit bright on the bridge. The neck unit is really cool but its the bridge that tricks me.

I love the voicing on the mids but I think I need something surgical and darker. Is the painkiller more dark on the mids side, more low mids ?  I know the diver is good to tame brightness, i have one on a bright axe but the eclipse isnt bright enough imo to deserve a holy diver. It would be too dark.

Maybe some pickup tweaking or some capacitor change ? I'm a newb when it comes to screws , height adjustment and so on.  :P

In my guitar the VHII sounds fat compared to the HD (neck p/ups)

Holy Diver in the bridge would probably do that guitar really good!

If it helps, I had an Air Norton/ToneZone combo in my black Eclipse for a while for a very fat tone. But I've since gone back to the EMGs since they deliver the "broootzzz". Not the main reason, I just felt I wanted one guitar with EMGs.
So end of story - fat sounding pickups, a bit on the darker side, should work well!

i ended up with rebel yells in zebra , i'll play on the cap value to tame brightness if needed. but i never had a harsh bkp so i don't except disapointment.

Black Dog is a bit brighter than the Holy Diver. Alternatively the Miracle Man shouldn't be a pretty good match as well.

I keep forgetting if yours has an ebony or a rosewood fretboard. Mine has an ebony one and I wouldn't think the HD is too dark for it, but if you have the rosewood one it's of course a different issue.

its rosewood ;it now has camo bombs that are a better match. Its the first one I had to struggle so much with to find an appropriate pickup. My les paul custom got the rebell yell now, same feeling, a bit bright for my taste. I guess they will go back to their daddy for something else. I love the vocal mids of those rebell yells but i'm a very very angry man, need something stronger to play my insane stuff.

Miracle Man then I'd say or maybe Nailbomb (which I don't know). Ask Tim what he says.
