On the hunt for an 8 string, agile import costs?
« on: July 11, 2010, 04:58:32 PM »
Hey beautiful people! I'm hunting for an 8 string and have my eyes on this at the moment.

http://www.rondomusic.com/intrepidprodual828.html

Subtotal    $759.98
Shipping    $110.77
Tax    $0.00
Total    $870.75

£577 with case, how much do I need to add for import costs? or is there a website to work it out on?

Open to suggestions for other guitars, went to try out an Ibanez RGA8 yesterday but none in stock at the moment. :( Did try a nonUSA Dean Rusty Cooley signature 7 string.

Funds doubled yesterday so I've got more than enough to go custom if I want without touching the lovely savings account, wouldn't mind a fan fret but I do only own a single guitar so might not be time for the jump to custom.

Cheers!

If you add 21% and then another £30 you should be about right, so 625ish? Not bad at all.

 don't know what went wrong there. I did the right operation on a calculator, got the wrong result. My Satnav took me completely the wrong way TWICE yesterday as well. Bad weekend for me an tech :(

I went to a custom multiscale (admittedly still a 6-string) baritone having owned an old 'Fender' esquire strat (starter kit thing I think), and then a second/third-hand ibanez RG (which is my gig backup now, and my parents sold my first guitar at a car boot sale without me knowing...).

I wouldn't suggest shying away from going custom if you know what you want ;)

That's a monster for the money. Are you planning on getting on the Richter Scale JDC?

They do some great stuff on that site don't they.

they certainly do!

i tried a gibson les paul the other day - my thought was "well thats not too bad, sounds almost as good as my agile!"

Yeah, after changing the pickups to some from budget brands and fitting a Wilkinson locking TOM, I have no need of a "real"  Les Paul, my Agile is everything I want from one. Also, I'm not going to get a green quilt LP with a 60s neck and ebony board from Gibson anytime soon am I?

The Ibanez stays in tune more though, that's the big problem with many 8-strings apparently. Hit the strings very hard and many go out of the tune on the low string.
Current BKPs: Miracle Man, Nailbomb, Juggernaut, VHII
Past BKPS: Holy Diver, Trilogy Suite, Sinner, Black Dog

If the quality on these newer agiles is anything like the al2500 i had which was at the lower end of the scale then there will be no issues and it will be a completely solid guitar

I still dont understand why anyone would want anymore than six strings. What's the appeal?!

Aye. Rather than bands having 8 String guitars and Basses tuned to compensate or whatever, I'd like to see bands with what would essentially be classed as 9 string basses. Or Chapman Sticks.

I'm not into the whole widdly, widdly virtuoso thing any more (but I can appreciate the really good stuff) but I think the possibilities would be pretty amazing with that sort of set up.

I've got to pull the trigger on a few Agiles sometime. I can quench most of my backburner GAS on this site.  8)

Really love the sound of open downtuned single notes

Their bassist plays notes in the same octave, but tone is still different to the guitars
